There's a great Winston Churchill quote I'll butcher and not bother to Google and perhaps is misattributed anyway, but goes something like "Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to shoot and be shot at without result." Seems like it applies here. Everyone loves a firefight where the guns are shooting straight into the air.

Yeah, I absolutely agree. But that must be McConnell's thinking.

exactly. lol at celebrating. its just a matter of time.

If delaying actions are all we have, it's fine to celebrate when they are effective. And then it's on to next one and the one after that. Because **** these *******s.

He can't sell **** healthcare bills but he's giving all the cover McConnell needs to nuke the filibuster

The filibuster isn't relevant here, they could have passed with 50 and Pence casting the deciding vote?

Not to give Trump credit for knowing a thing, but maybe Fox News was complaining that the GOP could have put together a bill that would get 50+ GOP votes if only they could write one that would not have to abide by reconciliation rules?

Last edited by MrWookie; 07-18-2017 at 11:22 AM. Reason: But more likely Trump is just rambling about Dems obstructionism and knows that the filibuster is a tool of obstruction.

Capito (R, WV) coming out against repeal without replace

McConnell is on record saying that if there were no filibuster the US would already be a socialist country. The GOP are short term thinkers, but even they would see nuking the filibuster as suicide. They will let Trump blather on because he's harmless and has no say.

He'll have millions of his minions and bots atting McConnell today urging him to go nuke, bet your ass on it.

Man Collins is bogarting them no votes. Pass that **** down girl.

Here's the 2017 CBO analysis of the GOP's 2015 "repeal and delay" reconciliation bill:

Coverage loss - 18 million uninsured in 2018. 36 million by 2026

Premium increases - 20% - 25% in 2018. 100% by 2026

People living in areas without market place insurance - 75% of the country by 2026

Bad debt - $1.1 trillion

Republicans went from shooting themselves in the foot to shooting themselves in the head.

I suspect McConnell is fine with this blowing up. The Senate is a six year term, and with Trump in the White House he's going to provide endless antics that will make the Senate look like grownups. McConnell would likely also be fine with nuking Obamacare - but he's not, as far as I can tell, a true-believer type on health care. I'd be a lot more worried about the damage a Pence could do, if Trump gets axed - I prefer incompetent to evil.

incompetent and evil tho, just not the exact same alignment.

Murkowski and Collins also NOs on straight repeal.

I don't get how a repeal doesn't require 60 votes someone halp?

It's repeal of the funding while leaving the insurance regs in place.
07-18-2017 , 02:03 PM

Republicans are not going to own it tho
07-18-2017 , 02:03 PM
welp at least they can run against Obamacare next year for the eleventieth time

We have talked about not wanting an absolute catostrophe to get the end result but this would absolutely pave the way to universal healthcare. Insurance companies would have little choice but to pull out / abandon parts or all of the country.

I know repeal won’t happen but it would blow up the GOP and usher in single payer / universal coverage if it happened.

I still love the dumb comments from republicans that the ACA was strictly a partisan effort.

I find Capito’s opposition untoward. I thought everyone in West Virginia got coal mining jobs and assume those jobs have robust insurance and benefits.

Why would she care about Medicaid expansion and the rest.
