The GOP war on voting The GOP war on voting

It's sad how brainwashed the right are regarding voting.

My company sent out a message about helping employees register to vote, and olds automatically start griping about how bad this is.

I have my mail in ballot and legit not sure I should even mail it in. The instructions say that my signature on the envelope must match the signature they have on file for me. I have nfi if I used my middle name or not when I made that signature. I assume my ballot will be chucked if they do not match exactly. Maybe I'll just vote in person idk

How many black people live in your zipcode?

Indeterminate as they're uncountable due to lack of ID

I don't want to decrease the significance of what you are describing and I agree with your conclusion, but it seems hard to believe that running 31 DMV offices costs only app. $3200 a year per office.

I don't remember exactly where I got that number from, but I think they were taking into account the fact that other offices were going to have to hire more personnel + in some cases operate additional hours to take on the extra load of drivers. Last time I went to get my license renewed I had to wait for a few hours and I got there very early in the morning and I didn't have to do any driving test, just had to fill out a short form and have my picture taken.

Oh florida

A federal judge blasted Florida officials Sunday night, calling a provision of state law that rejects some vote-by-mail ballots "obscene" disenfranchisement and directing officials to take steps to fix how some of those ballots are processed in the battleground state.

In Florida, if a voter's signature on a vote-by-mail ballot does not match the signature on file, then the ballot is declared illegal, and the vote is not counted.

Virginia registration site goes down. The D gov of the state... supports extending registration.

Just a crystal clear comparison between the good guys and the pure evil of ****wads like Rick Scott

I honestly wish there was some way to implement a grand bargain -- yes to voter ID laws in exchange for yes to mandatory registration (or some proxy for mandatory registration) and yes to significant investment in tech that made it easier to vote.

Democrats would clean the Aegean stables in one election cycle if this happened and serve a big class of stfu juice to the idiots who are worried about those crafty blacks voting 3 or 4 times an election.

I just checked the county Web site and it confirmed that they had received my ballot, so that's hopeful. I guess.

After North Carolina’s attempt to eliminate an entire week of early voting was struck down by a federal court in July, many Republican-controlled county election boards tried to take matters into their own hands. Dozens of counties voted to slash the number of early voting locations — especially targeting areas of high Democratic voter turnout like college campuses and African-American neighborhoods. Many, but not all, of these cuts were blocked by the state Board of Elections.

This year, 17 North Carolina counties will provide fewer total early voting hours than in 2012, and three counties that offered early voting on a Sunday in 2012 got rid of that option. Many counties are offering no evening hours, making access difficult for people who work one or more jobs.

One of the areas with the longest lines this week — Charlotte’s Mecklenburg County — offered 22 locations for the first day of early voting in 2012. This year, they offered only 10. Voters reported waiting for more than three hours to cast a ballot.

North Carolina state and county officials pursued these cuts despite the overwhelming popularity of early voting. More than half of all the votes cast in the 2012 election were cast early and in person, and black voters in particular favor early and in-person voting. A federal court found that before trying to eliminate the entire first week of early voting, the state requested data showing “African Americans disproportionately used the first seven days.”

The court struck down the vast majority of North Carolina’s election changes, calling them an attempt to suppress voters of color “with surgical precision.” But one piece allowed to stand was the elimination of straight-ticket voting — the option for a voter to check a single box in order to vote for a party’s candidates up and down the ballot.

A study by the non-profit voting rights group Democracy North Carolina found that 2.5 million voters used straight-ticket voting in 2012. Since it takes much longer to vote for each candidate individually, the organization fears this could slow down the already long wait times at the polls.

Hope some of those dumb white anger bears who have to sit in line for a half hour just to watch Clinton crush Trump anyway go back to their politicians and just plead for some ****ing convenience. If you get the long wait plus you lose anyway, can't you at least dispense with the queue?

If they lose, that means the lines weren't long enough! Next time, double them and make sure they apply to all black neighborhoods. Better yet, make all colored people in NC vote at one separate location with only one voting booth. I'm sure the NC GOP is trying to pass that into law as we speak.

Lol USA on voting. Who the hell wants to stand in line two hours to vote for these *******s?

I actually live in Guilford County. It isn't as bad as it sounds, they just basically cut the early voting times. There will be 25 sites open from 10/27-11/4. It's just the one site for the first week of early voting.

Dems should go on the offense and start pushing for federal regulation of elections and voting at every post office or federal building, early voting and 24hr voting on election day.

Absolutely. Some states will step up and do the right thing but others that are deep deep red (like Alabama) don't really have any incentive to change.
