Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel. Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

Pretty much every poll has the Ossoff/Handel race extremely close, which is to be expected at this point.

WSB-TV (Atlanta ABC affiliate) conducted a poll which said the same, but I thought this part in the AJC article about it was interesting:

Quote:
Other tidbits buried in the crosstabs: Ossoff leads Handel by a nearly 2-1 margin among voters under 39 and has a sizable edge in the 40-64 age bloc. That advantage is reversed with voters over 65, the most reliable voting bloc.
I'm hoping this means that even if Ossoff loses, I will see a Democrat come out of this district in my lifetime.

3 out of 4 districts in Kansas are very winnable.

East Cobb here. I was all set to vote for Handel until I read about her views on gay marriage. And she doesn't even have a normal family herself. What a phony

They are having a televised debate soon

If the first election's stats hold anywhere close to true, the Democrat, Christine Triebsch, doesn't stand a chance. Though she "won" that election, Dems only totaled 39.8% of the vote.

From my limited observations, there was very little campaigning done. I received a few calls and one or two mailings in the past week. If the turnout isn't high, I would assume it's a Republican rout. Also, Kirkpatrick (the Repub.) has way more yard signs.
The state senate race was mostly east cobb which vastly differs from this upcoming house race, which is east cobb + lots of areas of marietta/etc not as wealthy in addition to more liberal wealthy areas. I see about 50/50 ossoff and handel signs in yards, and I'm smack in the middle of Kay Kirpatrick east cobb. I think ossoff will win.

Yeah, I'm in East Cobb, too, and didn't think Triebsch had much of a chance because of the makeup of the state Senate district.

One thing I find interesting just from an optics perspective is that Ossoff carries himself so much better than Handel. He repeats meaningless bull**** a lot ("I'll reach across the aisle" type of stuff), but he much less combative and much more professional-appearing than Handel. She constantly attacks him, even if a question she's asked doesn't lend itself to that (and there's virtually nothing to attack him on), whereas he tends to stick to talking about what he wants to accomplish.

And I don't know if it was a good move or not, but there was definitely a difference in optics between the two at a Memorial Day festival in Roswell when she campaigned the whole time and didn't campaign at all.

I wish he would stop wearing suits all the time, though. You're at an outdoor holiday festival - wear something more appropriate.

Can we write in a vote? my god both of these people are idiots.
06-05-2017 , 03:44 PM
No, dude. Just vote for Ossoff. He will listen to smarter Democrats and be a check against the evil / idiotic agendas of the President, Freedom Caucus, etc.

Ossoff comes across as a bit stuffy and like he's trying too hard to look the part, but I haven't read or heard anything about him that makes him seem like an idiot. I'd perhaps like him to speak his mind just a little bit more (just a little), rather than having everything being a canned line, but this has nothing to do with his intelligence.

So one of them is stuffy, and the other one doesn't think gay people should be able to adopt kids and probably supports RepubliCare which would take health insurance away from 24 million people.

He said a bit stuffy.

STOP MISREPRESENTING FACTS, DEMOCRAT!

Wsb debate tonight. Right wing sources that aren't even in our district are trying to make a big deal that he backed out of the third debate on CNN and has not yet agreed to the fourth debate on radio. Politics is such aids

Handel: Small business owners >>>>>> their employees.

Remind me again how GOP is a viable political party. Like afaik most people are not bosses.

Most small business owners actually support raising the minimum wage. It's these giant lobbying groups that lobby for companies like Taco Bell, McDonald's, and KFC (the National Restaurant Association) that are deadset against it.

Most small business owners support minimum wage increase, poll finds
http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjourna...imum-wage.html
Quote:
Most small business owners support raising the minimum wage to $12 an hour by 2020, according to a poll conducted by Small Business Majority.

That’s true even for restaurants and retailers, according to the survey, which was conducted this month by Public Policy Polling.

Small Business Majority is a Democratic-leaning organization, and Public Policy Polling is a firm best known for its work for Democratic candidates. But before you dismiss this poll’s findings as partisan, consider this: 52 percent of the small business owners surveyed identified themselves as Republicans or Republican-leaning independents.

Even 58 percent of business owners who now pay some of their workers less than $12 an hour — and therefore would be directly affected by a minimum wage hike to this level — support the increase, the poll found.

One reason cited by business owners for raising the minimum wage is to boost economic growth.

“Small businesses know raising the minimum wage would immediately put more money in the pocket of low-wage workers who will then spend the money on things like housing, food and gas,” said John Arensmeyer, founder and CEO of Small Business Majority. “This boost in demand for goods and services will help stimulate the economy and help create opportunities for growth and expansion.”

Other small business owners just think that paying workers more is only fair, and that they shouldn’t have to compete against businesses that pay workers less.

"Great employees are critical to the success of every small business, and we all want to pay wages that are sustainable for our staff and our bottom line,” said Yael Krigman, owner and president of Baked by Yael, a cakepop and bagel shop in Washington, D.C.

“It's very difficult to compete against the cheap labor of big business, so a raise in the minimum wage helps level the playing field for businesses of all sizes and ensures fairness for employers and workers alike,” she said.

The wrong way to raise the minimum wage is to apply it only certain industries, contends the International Franchise Association, which was upset with New York’s decision to gradually raise the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hour.

I saw the title of that video and thought "that must have been taken out of context at least a little bit". Nope. Amazing.

This whole debate is pretty incredible. Starts about 36 minutes in.

The beginning of his response at 2:05 is pretty funny.

Optics-wise, he absolutely demolishes her at every turn. She comes across as bitter and angry, and keeps throwing out the term "liberal," like it's a pejorative.
06-06-2017 , 10:45 PM
Might as well be a pejorative in east Cobb lol

Being bitter and angry and calling people liberals as a pejorative is winning optics in republican country because it's what they are now.

Whoever was the messaging guy who came up with livable wage should be bought a drink because if you're against it then what? You're for an unlivable wage? Like you want people to die in the streets?

I was surprised she actually snap said she didn't support a living wage. Not that it'll matter ofc.

Well watching the parts of the debate that I did (only about 10 min total), it looks like an educated dude debating against someone who is obviously not very bright. Of course, if I try to imagine what a Trumpkin would perceive, they probably think she did great. While she may not have won in an objective sense, she did enough.

Can someone who watched it maybe point me to Ossoff's weakest part of the debate. In all the segments I saw, I think he did very well.
