Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

At least he isn't sending people home. But he has lost the words Democratic Party from his vocabulary.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

Ossoff is not particularly polished in some ways (stage presence, pauses, staying on after his last line to wave and take in the cheering), but I noticed the same thing CNN is pointing out. His inflection and delivery sound a lot like they were modeled off of Obama's (I assume they were, given his age).

I guess, but there are definitely factors going both ways. I don't have any real confidence in this, but I think he does better against one Republican. And it doesn't add up to a whole lot but there were 4 other Democrats and 2 Independents.

Ossoff + Dems = 49.5% right now. Not enough in a runoff. The main reason I think it doesn't bode well is that chances are the Dem turnout was significantly higher tonight than Republican turnout.

Now the local GOP voters have gotten the wakeup call, but without actually losing the seat. Plus, it's two months of the GOP funneling all of the money/support to one candidate instead of 10 (or realistically three or four). The Democrats already were.

He's not drawing dead, but this was his best shot for sure. I'm guessing 75-85% of his equity was in the first election.

This has pretty much gone down exactly the way everybody predicted, with Osssoffff maybe squeezing out an extra point or two.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

I don't think he benefits from a longer race, because my general impression of him is that while well-meaning, he has little substance. And the GOP fear mongering will have more time to work its power. The best hope for Ossoff is that Trump ****s up really badly in the next month or so (worse than usual I mean).

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

An additional thought, which could help or hurt Ossoff - I have no idea. College kids who changed their residency were in town to vote for this one, but won't be in April. I don't think there are any major colleges in GA-06, so it could help him that college kids who did NOT change their residency will be home from school to vote in June.

Also, it's two more months for Trump to mess up the GOP brand. We could be in an unpopular war by June, they could come after healthcare again, who knows?

So there is some possible upside for Ossoff, and I think it'll be close either way, but he's gotta be a somewhat sizable underdog.

There were 11 Republicans running, though. He got that part right.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

I think Ossoff definitely has to start invoking Trump, rather than going all bland. Don't necessarily go full attack mode, but convince Republicans who don't like Trump that it's ok to vote for a Democrat because he won't stand for Trump's ****.

EDIT: An analyst on CNN says the Dems/Ossoff have to go beyond just being anti-Trump. I guess, maybe, I just don't know how. Then again, I'm not a political maven.

John Oliver and all the other late shows should do special live shows in different counties. Bring lots of attention to what a scum bag Trump is and the GOP.

Feels like I need to start the taking credit for **** I didn't have anything to do with, blame everyone else for anything bad strategy. It ****ing works. I've been doing this backwards and he's the billionaire pres and I'm just some poor bum posting on the internet.

Like R's could win an alabama race and he'd be calling it an epic upset victory all because of him at this point.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

At some point the Democratic Party is going to have to start winning these things instead of settling for closer losses. Ranting on the Internet isn't working, just like it didn't work for the 16 months Trump was running.

Unless D leadership starts to change things up, we're headed for a loss of 4 to 8 Senate seats next year.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

"Convince Republicans," is a bad strategy. Maybe go really hard on local issues? Idk. They should go after Trump, of course, but explain how he's hurting that specific district, not the damage he's doing to the abstract principles of decency and civic virtue, which was a big loser for Hillary.

I also hate the Hollywood celebrity endorsements. Gut feels here, but I'd guess it drives up their turn out more than ours.

Well, I don't disagree much, but you have to remember that you're actually asking for a lot here. These complaints will be more justified if we lose a seat where the last Dem won, or the Repube won by 2 or 3 points.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

What they need to do is come up with some method of getting people under 35, who are mostly Democrats but don't turnout in anywhere near the numbers they should, off of Facebook and out of the ****ing house to vote. I'm 34 and I can't even begin to count how many people I know roughly my age who love to ***** about Trump and conservative attitudes on social media and through text, but don't get off their ass on the day they can do something about it.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

This may seem minor, and I don't have TV so maybe this is something that appears in political ads already, but how about harping on the fact that this piece of **** steals tens of millions of our tax dollars to golf in Florida three days a week. Everybody hates this. Even the Breitbart choads complain about it. So why not keep reminding people of that? And like maybe give an example of a program for kids or veterans that Trump cut which could have easily been paid for by those millions. Seems like a slam dunk.

All true, except many of his hardcore supporters have been stupidly convinced for years that Obama played golf like, every day or something.

If they managed to come up with secure online voting, **** would be game over GOP.

Like yes, those people are lazy AF, and deserve to be berated mercilessly, but this is what millennials do in every aspect of their lives. I had to deposit a physical check the other day, and it was an actual nightmare until I realized I could use my bank's app to do it from home. This is how we roll, and this idea that you have to register far in advance, drive to a place, and wait in line, in some cases for over an hour, just to fill in a box on a piece of paper -- it does not jibe with the way we do anything else.

Re: Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

So it turned out Trump didn't have a plan to defeat ISIS in 30 days

Turned out Mexico wasn't going to pay for the wall

Turned out Muslim ban was unconstitutional

Turned out despite REPEAL AND REPLACE OBAMACARE FOR SEVEN YEARS, repubs don't have the slightest ****ing idea what to replace it with

Turned out the North Korea situation is more complicated than Trump realized

People keep ****ing voting R, ahhhhhh
