Yeah it's starting to look like a third world dictatorship in here. The illusion of democracy gives the appearance of legitimate authority to the government, but it's all stolen. Once these authoritarian regimes grab a decent amount of power (currently the fascist Republican party controls two of three branches of government, and has already stolen one out of nine Supreme Court seats) there's no going back.

I have been keeping an eye on this election from afar and wanted to spend a few minutes to opine about this election.

I believe tonight will be the first step for resistance, as we begin to restore order to this great country. I believe Ossoff will win by somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 points. This win will send a message that hate and bigotry from the president and the president's party cannot be sustainable. A win in a district that has not voted for a Democrat in about 40 years will send that message loud and clear.

I would think it would go in the other direction...Atlanta is not exactly a college town.

College students are likely to be registered to vote at their permanent address, not their college address. Shouldn't matter. Those who are from the district but went to school elsewhere might now be home to vote. If not, they can vote by mail.

That all said, Ossoff will probably lose tonight.

I'm actually listening to a phone town hall with Ossoff right now. Got a call a few minutes ago that linked me into it - don't know how to actually call in to join.

So far, he has given very good answers to some solid questions. I wish his message - what he truly stands for and against - would've gotten out better. For instance, he was asked about a proposed "campus carry" act, which would allow college students to carry concealed weapons on college campuses here in Georgia (I believe that's what it is). He explained that he was taught how to handle firearms when he was a kid and that he supports the 2nd amendment, but he is very opposed to the campus carry bill.

That was a good answer. Sucks that messages like that rarely seem to become known to all voters.
