Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel. Georgia's 6th - Ossof v. Handel.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Not sure if posted, but. Ugh. Ugh.

Quote:
CHAMBLEE, GA. -- Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel are both speaking out against an ad appearing to link Ossoff to Wednesday's shooting at a Republican baseball practice outside of Washington, D.C.

The television spot, which was produced by the Principled PAC, shows House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on a stretcher after the shooting, along with the sound of gunshots.

"The unhinged left is endorsing and applauding shooting Republicans," the ad's narrator says.

"When will it stop? It won't if Jon Ossoff wins on Tuesday," the narrator continues.

The spot then shows several images and videos including one of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a fake severed head that looks like President Trump, as well as a letter that reads "Resist the Facist takeover. String up the collaborators."

The ad then claims "these same leftists are all for Ossoff, and if he wins, they win."

"Stop Jon Ossoff. Stop Nancy Pelosi. Vote Karen Handel for Congress," the narrators concludes.

They already linked him to ISIS, so why not?

kathy griffin is such a colossal idiot if she thought that her little severed head "art" routine wasn't going to send the derposphere up into orbit. while i agree with the content of her message, i think her method of execution was somewhat dubious/flawed and she should have stood behind it.

the absurdity of it all is that it's all so ****ing predictable too. like what, you were gonna weasel around and immediately back down and they were gonna be like "ok cool, apology accepted." instead they got utoobz of her crying and political attack ads against one of our own in the most crucial pre-midterm race. she makes us all look like spineless cowards, and gives the self assured derper even more ammo to fire back at the HATEFUL AND INTOLERANT LEFT, which is basically just an effective rallying cry for idiots who can't stand to see that smug redheaded liberal jew ***** talking down to them.

good one, ****ing dumbass. get ****ed kathy griffin, piece of ****

I'm curious about the internet advertising in this election. I've been totally bombarded with Ossoff ads on YouTube (like 95+% of ads I see are that "Fabulous Life of Karen Handel" ad). I like in Atlanta, but not in the Sixth. Do we think the campaigns are just targeting everyone in Atlanta under the theory that people will influence their friends and co-workers who do live in the Sixth, or are ads just getting mistargeted? I thought one of the trade-offs of giving up all our privacy was that we would at least get relevant ads.

My guess is your first thought is probably right. Just bombard ATL with ads and then some people may tell family/friends to vote so and so.

Both candidates spent so much $ that they probably ran out of effective advertising techniques and thus something like that has diminishing returns but what is the alternative? not spending as much as possible? nahhhh.

This is where they're at and if I had to guess, given Trump's results and the current climate, you're going to see a lot more of it in the midterms and future elections.

This part is up to the voters. If they can't steer their way through nonsense they have to live with more of the same.

I doubt Twitter can target specifically to the 6th. It's also super standard to buy ads for a whole market for a narrow race. In Chicago, I frequently see media market ads for a State House race that covers 3% of the market. TV, internet ads and radio time is a lot cheaper than local newspapers and direct mail, which are the main ways to target a district.

I realize this is dredging up old **** while we await election results but wheatrich is correct in saying Trump won the debates amongst Trump derpers. The same things that had everyone else writing the debates off as a clear Trump loss are exactly what those people hold up as proof he won. They were able to pick and choose which things were just Trump blustering and which were him "telling it like it is" and chalk it up as a "W" for the red team.

As we know, the GOP Congress will never hold Trump accountable unless they perceive it's in their interest. This requires them to believe they will lose races if they continue to kowtow to Trump. This the only chance we're going to prove to them therw is a cost to supporting Trump. If they do not learn that lesson, it's full speed ahead to killing democracy.

In other words, the fate of the nation rests on this race. No pressure.

Anyone up for a bet, I'll throw a few hundo on Handel at +110 (48% on predictit)

Keep being a condescending ******* with wrong opinions though, that'll surely get rural voters in the next election.

Trump offered nothing as well

Going to MAGA!

How?

Going to have better insurance and it's going to be cheaper!

How?

Going to build a wall and Mexico pay for it!

How?

He just spouted off non sense with no concrete plans. As we can clearly see now.

The GOP didn't get to power by respecting democracy. They got to power by breaking democracy at every turn. Voter ID laws are a prime example, something Handel says was "her most important accomplishment" in Georgia. They have no investment in democracy. They have nothing to gain by respecting democratic norms, and everything to gain by continuing to destroy them. Look at the stolen Supreme Court seat. If they lose this seat, they'll start looking for more dramatic ways to steal elections. They have absolutely no investment in a government based on democracy or democratic ideals.

Latest poll Handel +2 with no undecideds. I will be shocked, shocked I say, if the "undecided" voters from the other polls break R.

How does one play by the rules and win against that?

Trump made the same point about ISIS last year. Remember the whole "They get to chop off heads and drown people in steel cages, but we can't even waterboard?" stuff? It was often wrapped in a little "We have to work within laws. They have no laws. How are you supposed to beat them with all the restrictions?"

Handel is definitely going to win this.

You don't. Our democracy is over.

Yeah, I know. Dem internals must be bad, too. There was a Politico story yesterday about Dems sending out "Coming close is great!" memos to donors.

Gotta keep posting because people are either unwilling to admit or don't realize that our democracy has been totally destroyed. We need to get the message out there. Media isn't covering this, and I don't think they're going to suddenly start covering it without massive pressure.

If Ossoff loses, this is the new normal, guys. A country perpetually run by a hard-right party driven by the donor-class and fueled by the ignorant masses, which gerrymanders the **** out of districts and strips away voting rights from minorities in order to keep winning elections despite enacting awful policy that hurts the majority of voters - even a huge chunk of their OWN voters. In Georgia alone in the last few months, I've seen articles on:

1) Ignoring hacking vulnerabilities in their electronic voting systems/databases.

2) Ignoring voter registration paperwork from minorities to disenfranchise them, and going after and shutting down the non-profits trying to register them.

3) Purging minorities from the voter rolls using Crosscheck.

And when all of that STILL leaves it a close race in a massively red district, they'll resort to using audio of Obama out of context, insinuating the candidate has ties to ISIS, hanging Nancy Pelosi around every candidate's neck and blaming liberal politicians for a shooting they all condemned in a climate driven by Trump's violent rhetoric.

If he loses this, WAAF. If he wins, prepare for the response to be more of the above tactics rather than standing up to Trump. These fascists would rather strip more voting rights than hold 45 accountable.
