Is forcing people to do something against their will moral or immoral?


Pretty easy questions. There's a better way to fund programs than theft. If people really wanted programs like these, theft wouldn't be necessary, people would voluntarily contribute to it.

the direction card chicanery i've seen in the last few years could seriously explode riverman's brain.

the fact that people can pay for frozen steaks, lobster, shrimp, etc. with a direction card to a guy in a truck, then sell said steaks, lobster, shrimp, etc. for half-price to someone then use the money on crack is awesome.

seen it happen.

i'm sure that's overwhelmingly common, but seeing each transaction happen is something else.

Shamsha Mirza Vasaya also was ordered to pay restitution in the exact amount of the money she stole from the government: $557,421.32, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Vasaya ran the scheme out of her Chevron Food Mart at 811 South Marietta Parkway from June 2009 to July 2011, even after authorities warned her in 2009 to stop.

The woman not only let customers buy goods not allowed under the federal food stamp program, customers told Channel 2 she charged more for goods bought with the stamps than with cash -- demanding $10 for a $5 pack of cigarettes, for example."


But I'm sure she was the only person doing this. I'm sure this type of thing isn't going on hundreds of times over in ever major city in the US.

ringing up cigs/alcohol as groceries would be fraud, you don't think store owners would do that, do you?

i've been offered $100-200 on direction cards at drastically reduced prices in cash and have passed every time, mostly because i a) didn't want to use the direction card myself, and b) didn't trust them to get what i wanted.

that said, this **** is definitely broken. i know people who get them and need them, working poor, mom and dad both work and have 3 kids, etc.

THAT said, i know a whooole ton of people that get them that use them as an additional cash payment every month.

Of course it adds to the discussion. People were getting all up in arms about the post I cited and I came in to tell people that the person that wrote that post is either leveling or a 12 year old.

That's important information.
