Food Stamps Are Out of Control.

The U.S. is going to spend $770 billion over the next ten years on food stamps.

Over 44 million people are on food stamps. One in seven people.

A recently defeated measure would have prevented people with large savings or million dollar houses from receiving food stamps. It failed 56-43 in the Senate.

States get bonuses, totaling $500 million annually, for signing more people up for food stamps. A measure to stop these bonuses also failed.

States are in some cases allowed to auto-enroll people for food stamps. A measure to stop this practice will fail.

The main culprit is of course the agrigulture industry, whose ponies are untouchable. Great.

Why don't we just open up more soup kitchens and free cafeterias, etc? I don't mind food stamps as much as I mind the fact the "stamps" are used to by non-food products.

The people in power are the ones that make this happen.

The people in power are not the poor, and lower middle class (majority of Americans).

That requires labor, labor costs money.

Generally they can't, but yeah every now and then some loopholes need to be closed like allowing stamps to be used at casinos. I prefer issuing WIC checks where each check only allows you to buy specific products (peanut butter, milk, baby formula, etc..).

lol are you serious? a lot of families depend on food stamps, a lot of kids too. Obviously some will abuse the system but it's a small price to pay to see that no kids ever go hungry in the US.

What?! $770 billion is a big number. And I don't personally use food stamps, so I should be outraged! Large numbers that don't benefit me personally are all bad!

Re: Food Stamps Are Out of Control.

you think 1 in 7 people will be UNABLE TO EAT without someone giving them food?

you think it is unreasonable to only give them to the people that need it?

Re: Food Stamps Are Out of Control.

Well "Over 44 million people are on food stamps. One in seven people." is a problem whether you're liberal or conservative. One side thinks we're paying out too many people, one side thinks our system creates too many poor people that need it.

Yes. I think if we eliminated food stamps entirely there would be a massive increase of people begging for food in the streets.

Personally I think anybody should be able to get food stamps if they want it, I trust that the majority of society won't abuse the program and only receive food stamps when they really need it.

Re: Food Stamps Are Out of Control.

Should we provide food for all US citizens to assure no one goes hungry?

Meh, if you can't afford to feed yourself, maybe you shouldn't bring another person into this world who you can't afford to feed.

Hey dude, 1 in 7 Americans are getting food stamps RIGHT NOW. That kind of disproves your whole 'society won't abuse the program' pitch.
