it is one of my favorite hobbies. i play with friends here in kentucky all the time and have been enjoying some crazy weather lately (embrace global warming!). for instance it was 63 degrees here yesterday and i spent the day at a couple different courses
the fact a bunch of us are all in the same skill level makes it really competitive and fun. then we layer all different types of gambling on top of it (doubles, skins, closest to pins, long putt bonus money, long drives etc etc) makes it pretty great
ive managed to get some of my poker friends into it a bit, and will continue to convert people to the great game of frolf
I like both of those things, will do. Conference is Tuesday/Wednesday, then Thurs-Sat mostly plan to play 20-40 at bellagio of maybe some DSE at venetian, will be with coworkers the first couple of days who have never been to vegas so will likely be stuck walking up and down the strip for a few days
My mom's been in a nursing home for a couple of years now. Dad's been there for the last five months "temporarily" but he's finally admitted that it's permanent so he's giving up his apartment. My brother and I have until the end of the month to empty it out / divvy things up / donate to Goodwill / etc.
Things found just today:
My dad's green card. Yes, once upon a time, they were actually green. Damn, he was a handsome man back in 1950.
What appears to be his wallet from Norway, including an Oslo driver's license (were local licenses issued then?, it makes no reference to the rest of the country), a visa from when he lived in France for a while in 1947 (I could digress into rambling stories of his time working in a circus in the French Alps or his brief flirtation with the idea of emigrating to Algeria, but will spare you all), and several small black and white photos of what might be "the girl he left behind" before emigrating to America, eventually meeting my mom.
A super-sweet-looking pearl necklace of my mom's, in its original Tiffany's box.
Several photos of my dad in his office circa 1961, looking exactly like Don Draper in Mad Men.
And we haven't even started on those boxes in the den closet...
In the December thread I posted something about getting a parking ticket. I parked on the street overnight (apparently can't do so after Dec 1 and this was Dec 4) and got a parking ticket that I was pissed to find out was for $45. I talked a big game about going to court to fight the man but obviously wasn't going to waste hours of my life over $45 and paid the outrageous fine. Since then I've just parked in the driveway.
Well, yesterday I get a "Notice to Pay or Appear" letter in the mail from the county office about me owing $45. A warrant will be issued for my arrest if I don't take care of this. I locate the confirmation email and my credit card statement that shows I paid the $47.50 ("convenience" fee). I call the county. Turns out, I also got a ticket on the night of Dec 2 for the same thing! Obviously I never got that ticket or I would have started parking in the driveway immediately and would have never got the second. So I'm in a total of $90 now!!!
Also, I work with a girl who is engaged to a deputy sherriff. Apparently it's their policy to give warnings for the first week of December because nobody is aware of the ordinance but the guy who wrote me the 2 tickets is just a dick.
