Re: FeBREWary's NC Thread
Mostly if I was somebody who gave money to Komen, and had passion for that cause (even if I thought abortion was the worst thing ever)- I'd be incredibly pissed off that an organization I was funding was to incredibly dense as to not realize how this was going to play out. There is just simply no other way this situation resolves than what has happened, and any random sampling of 5 people in a room should realize that.

Bachmann: "Educational reform is another area. That's where I cut my teeth in politics, was being involved in educational reform, because the problem you see is one of framing.
It's the idea, should the federal government control these areas, or should parents and localities control these areas? We have the best results when we have the private sector and when we have the family involved."
Gingrich: "The correct answer is to radically reduce the Department of Education, cut out all federal regulations, return the money and the power back home to the states. But I would say to the states, it will be good for them to shrink their Departments of Education and return the power back to the local county boards, and then let parents and teachers and students get back to learning."
Paul: "I think that the smallest level of government possible best performs education. Teachers, parents, and local community leaders should be making decisions about exactly how our children should be taught, not Washington bureaucrats."

My bad. I missed the politicians angle of the original post I quoted. I think the Republican argument for localization differs from the 2+2 libertarian argument. Reading comprehension fail on my part.

Re: FeBREWary's NC Thread
Hey, so, the forum is getting archived next month. If you have any threads that you refer back to a lot, go ahead and bump them to preserve them. Take it easy, but it's good to preserve some of the past best stuff.

Re: FeBREWary's NC Thread
How strong is the correlation between "terrorists" now, and "communists" during McCarthy's era? Along these lines, can anyone recommend a good book on Joe McCarthy?

Well almost everyone I know in CA who owns a house is living paycheck to paycheck just trying to pay off their $700k fixer-upper, and would get crushed if the feds removed the interest deduction right now (assuming the states/cities aren't going to be removing property taxes any time soon). Maybe try phasing it out over time, with all the current bloated house price people grandfathered in?

I wondered what the hell was going on. So how does it work? Any threads w/no activity get moved off to an archive or something?
