^ what about it is so preposterous? (not rhetorical) When I see someone dismiss an idea so fervently with ridicule without an actual logical argument I find it disdainful. If what he said is so ridiculous please point out the obvious logical fallacies so I can have more logical ideas to analyze the situation, condemnation accomplishes nothing
Who is the obvious purpotrator? I dislike those who scorn others for thinking and asking questions. Yes this an emotional situation but condemnation and silencing anyone with a differing view is not the way to go. Ask more questions, think for yourself and if someone disagrees with you don't try to silence them.

Hi guys. Thanks for thinking about us. The good news is that me and the team I coach are all ok and accounted for, huddled up in our hotel. We were fortunate enough to all be fast enough to have finished before this happened. Most of our team was already back at the hotel. 3 of our ladies were walking back from the finish and heard two loud successive blasts. Aside from being a bit shaken up, they're fine.

I imagine that the confusion must be terrible for those who started racing late. I was off at the gun at 10 AM, but two more waves started at 1020 and 1040. Since the race was immediately canceled after the attack, huge numbers of runners had to exit the course. Cell coverage has been awful (it was a huge pain getting in touch with my wife) so I hope these runners can make contact with their families at first opportunity.

It's tough typing this on my phone, but my brief thoughts are as follows: This is basically Munich. There isn't another sports event as pure as a foot race. 99.99% of the field (myself obviously included) do it knowing that we have a zero-percent probability of winning. EliotR can vouch, but the only people we really race against are ourselves. 28,000 runners wanting nothing more than to defiantly push ourselves against our body's limits. And this bloodthirsty coward took aim at these peaceful runners and the fans who cheered us on. All terrorism is obviously abhorrent, but it takes a special kind of evil to target this kind of celebration of the human spirit.

Killing cell phone service to an area as a security precaution seems like a horrible idea to me, it introduces a host of other potential dangers and complications.

What if someone is horribly injured and trapped under something and tries to call for help? What if someone sees something suspicious and wants to report it to authorities? etc.

This hit hard, so sad.
