+EV social responsability

At What point does Social responsability become +EV?

Let's take a little closer look. 1% of the US population is homeless. Nowhere is that more evidant than Las Vegas, where roughly 6k are homeless. You will pass at least 2 on every skywalk.

It takes roughly $4 to supply basic needs for a single person.

The average American hourly wage is $23/hr.

So $4 equates to roughly 11 minutes of a single paid hour.

So is the EV of giving up 11 minutes of your time worth knowing someone has their basic survival needs?

It seems with as much as we, the gambling community, look at expected value that this would be a no brainer and we should all pony up the $4 a day.

If not then when does social Responsability become +EV if it isn't worth 11 minutes of our time?

I think a refresher course in spelling would be +EV for you if you hope to be taken seriously.

According to my paycheck after Taxes, medical, SS and all that crap I keep 48 % of what I earn about 11 of the 23 dollars.

1) I already give wayyyyyy more than your 4 dollars.

2) I would gladly give another 4 dollars if that would solve whatever the hell your talking about but it won't.

3) Your not factoring in Administrative costs so instead of 4 dollars you problably up to 100 dollars every 11 minutes.

Social Responsiblity is never +EV other than personal feelings that you did something to help unless you count free vaccinations or free purell or free condoms. Not getting polio or SARS or the herp is always +EV

I agree with most of this post except the bolded assertion. I have no way of quantifying the +EV of social responsibility, but I feel intuitively that causing the mass human organism on this planet to work more effeciently and fairly relieves potential for, if not problems down the road, at least obstacles that prevent our overall "fitness" (in terms of survival of the species).

I don't care about humainty or survival of the species I just don't want to get Herpes or SARS so if they are going to give out free purell, masks and condoms then it's +EV

Serioulsy tho when i give a bum 10 bucks for beer and smokes all i get out of it is that I helped a guy a lot more than if I got him food or clothes. I made his current mental status +EV

And the median is about $16. I find that fact far more interesting, and relevant.

OP,

You stole 30 seconds from me with this crappy thread so that leaves only ten and a half minutes for the homeless. You are the rake imo.

Re: +EV social responsability

At the absolute minimum, I'd say it's +ev to pay for the removal and disposal of dead hobos in my neighborhood.

My guess is social responsibility becomes +ev well before I let them die of disease or starvation.

Let the people offended by the sight of dead hobos pay for their removal. They don't bother me.

Most of these are not homeless, but instead make an above average wage begging, that they do not pay taxes on.

There is no such thing as a poor person in America, only people who completely mismanage their money.
