Unfortunately it will take 20-30 years, so trump won't be alive to witness it, but yes it will be glorious.

With globalization taking a huge hit in favor of nationalism and mercantilist policies, there is also no reason to think the world will be in a good state for last ditch efforts. Indeed, if we go by history it is far more likely that the potential world crisis will lead us into large-scale war and strife.

If these men and women are correct, the conclusion is simple. Our civilization and the political system we live in at an international level failed.

I really don't know how we as a species are supposed to terraform Mars when we can't even keep from destroying a perfectly habitable planet.

The number of people living in extreme poverty drops by ~250k a day.

Do you have a citation for this and a definition of "extreme poverty"?

Also, even if what you claim is true it does not disprove tame_deuces' comment.
03-12-2017 , 08:01 AM
Don't feel like looking up the exact numbers, but the World Bank and other orgs do say that the lowest poverty levels are being reduced, but those lines are set at like $1-$5 per day levels (obviously you're still in poverty conditions well above that).

It's kind of a questionable factoid to post in response to tame's post though, especially as virtually all of the long-term consequences are yet to be felt. Besides the environmental problems, you're looking at a new US regime that intends to slash foreign aid programs and reduce globalization policies which are partially responsible for those drops.

Trump to name coal lobbyist as deputy EPA chief: report
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefi...a-chief-report
Quote:
Coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler is reportedly President Trump's pick to be the deputy chief of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and is expected to be tapped for the position in coming weeks.

Wheeler, who once served as an adviser to Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), is Trump's top choice to fill the position, but it is unclear when the official announcement will be made, Politico reported Thursday.

Wheeler has experience working as an EPA staffer before working as a Republican staffer on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. He now co-leads the law firm Faegre Baker Daniels's energy and natural resources practice.

He is also a registered lobbyist for the nation's largest privately owned coal company, Murray Energy, which challenged many of Obama's environmental regulations in court.

This isn't really news yet, but < 2 cents per kwh solar is coming soon.

Coal is dying simply because it's too expensive.

Coal is still expected to be the No. 1 source of electricity for the next few decades.
03-23-2017 , 08:35 AM
In the US or worldwide?
03-24-2017 , 08:56 AM
I'm sure massive subsidies will help keep coal competitive, but no one will complain about picking winners and losers

Energy transfer, the company that's building the Dakota access pipeline, spilled millions of gallons of drilling fluid in Ohio wetlands.

Ohio voted for Trump, so I'm having a hard time finding any sympathy for them.
04-24-2017 , 08:42 AM
Who's asking for sympathy? It says in the article the spill was contained and cleaned up.
04-24-2017 , 10:29 AM
shifty, as someone who has worked in spill response - LOL

and i'm not sure where in the article it says the spill was contained and cleaned up
04-24-2017 , 12:17 PM
Shifty why do you hate economic growth? You know what pisses off libtards? When you don't clean up spills. Oooh man the looks on those latte-drinking, dread-locked patchoulli-smelling tree-huggers' faces when they see toxic pollution permanently **** up the environment. Totally worth it. Drill baby drill and roll coal baby!

trump is about to get rid of 100s of thousands of acres of national monument land.

beyond the natural beauty, and habitat for many animals, the lands actually stimulate the local economies and provide tremendous benefit.

but once trump and the repubs are thru, companies will come in and rape the land for all its resources and then leave it ugly and useless.

http://www.npr.org/2017/04/25/525639...onal-monuments

truly disgusting and despicable.
