The Economics of the Opiate Epidemic The Economics of the Opiate Epidemic

Yeah opiate withdrawal is miserable, but not going to kill you unless your medically compromised in some other way. Alcohol withdrawal can legitimately kill you. The problem with opiates is even if you make it through the detox to get sober, you have less than 5-10% chance of still being sober a year later.

What surftheiop said.

The only way opiate withdrawal will kill you is if you have some preexisting condition, particularly a heart condition.

Benzos can kill you during withdrawal.

I'm sorry, why is this comparison between DT and opioid withdrawal even relevant? The argument is that alcohol is low-key actually worse since it has a possibly-fatal withdrawal syndrome?

The Dr's are no doubt just in it for the money and don't give a **** about the patient. At least the Dr's that I've seen.
How does a doctor make money prescribing oxycodone? They are not allowed to dispense it and they are not allowed to accept money from the pharmaceutical company.

If a doctor is dealing drugs, that is criminal. Legal or illegal.

Percs go for $30 apiece or so on the street ($1/mg). Script for 30 is worth $900 in resale. Charge $300 for the "appointment" cash only, writing a script takes (generously) 30 seconds. It isn't like any exam or evaluation is going on that would take up time. Even a paralytically lazy doc can handle five an hour, six hours a day, couple hours off for lunch and you're still knocking down 8k daily. Easy thousands in sweet tax free monies til you get caught - and of course, no need to only write for 30 - 60 or 90 is fine too.
