Re: Doj raids Gibson guitar

It's not obvious why you would exclude Lirva, since Fly was quoting him in that response.

Or why LirvA gets a pass and Boro doesn't, considering they both spew the same "Blame Gubment" poasting style.

Its a matter of interpretation regarding whether the wood was a raw material or finished. Since Gibson caved they either agree it was raw material or wasnt worth fighting over it.

After the recent news it doesn't seem so but Boro said early on that 'it appears they were following the law'.

Legalizing weed would reduce that kind of petty punitive justice. Legalizing Madagascar wood would turn that island into Haiti East.

too bad the law does nothing to limit deforestation. If the fretboards were inlaid in Madagascar then they could be imported.

Pokerbobo did in post 14. Borodog did in 46.

Now what?

Edit, maybe dominator87 in post 108?

The govt. in Madgascar regulates the forests there. The Lacey Act prevents U.S. companies from importing the wood. So it actually does prevent deforestation by curbing the demand for it.

I'm sure it's a serious issue, but 'rosewood mafia' gave me a good chuckle.

Also that Peter Schiff interview which was quoted.

I mean, none of the posters in this thread have made any sort of cogent argument against the Lacey act, because LOL none of them know what it is.

If pvn wants to claim that it's some sort of injustice or a bad law, go right
ahead. He'd be the first.

I'm about to head out the door but when I get back Ill take another look at this case. IIrc from the first time I read about this, Gibson was in compliance with the foreign government, whatever country it was.

I quoted the Gibson CEO from the Schiff interview and knew what the Lacey Act was. So what?

Superbump to express bafflement that they were breaking the law. I was sure posters in this forum and Peter Schiff had it right, but I guess you never know.

Yeah, this is actually the key point. This law may have been intended to "do something" about sustainable wood yada yada but in reality it's pretty horrible and enforcing it this way is nothing more than a power tripping exercise.

But I'm glad fly is here to remind us that ITS THE LAW like the tards over at citydata.
