As a side note re: preschool suspension racial discrepancies, how cool would it be if the study controlled for the teacher's race??? How cool would it be to see how often minority teachers suspended minority/white children in their classes in relation to white teachers and white/minority children?

Quick everybody form an opinion based on two outlier events. Everything is defined by the far ends of the spectrum! People are both fat AND skinny, LOL THEM.

If there's a disparity, it would likely show minority kids still getting harsher treatment. One could also look at relations within minorities regarding skin shades and see how the lighter the skin, the better the treatment. There's actually quite a bit of literature on this type of stuff.

Funny how in all this talk about broke teen moms not once has the father's financial responsibility been mentioned.

Father is for sure culpable, but unless we're going to say "tough **** your father isnt doing the right thing" it aint really relevent.

I wonder if Howard thinks auto insurance incentivises car accidents.

The thread is about Schools and Howard went into some weird racist tangent about team moms. Why would somebody continue that tangent with something even more unrelated?

Are we still discussing schools? Some solid data from Delaware where black students are suspended far more, even with similar histories of trouble.

Quote:
“A statistical analysis of all students referred for discipline for the first time, based on the District’s own records and categorizations, found that African Americans were at least twice as likely to receive a suspension … than white students for violations of similar severity. Moreover, African Americans experiencing their first referral were over three times more likely than white students to have the suspension be [out of school] rather than [in school]. For students whose first disciplinary referral was for Inappropriate Behavior, African American students were nearly seven times more likely to receive [an out-of-school suspension] than white students.”

Hey, Howard is capable of considering new evidence that challenges his assumptions, so don't write him off.

Here's a very interesting article What If Everything You Knew About Poverty Was Wrong?, about a sociologist who went to live in Camden, NJ. Rather than compile statistics, she compiled stories from the poor about how they manage. This makes it a discussion about humans, not rival ideologues. She has things to say to offend all sides. One point: welfare does not pay enough to live, but neither does minimum wage. The "trap" is not welfare, but poverty. (People who bother to actually read the article will find plenty of things to challenge that conclusion.)

Witnessed the exact same screwed up parental mentality I mentioned in the OP. My son's 10U travel ball team was running a lap around the field at the end of practice and one of the kids tripped another kid. When they get back the coach tells the kid "don't do that someone's gonna get hurt." Not extreme, raised his voice a little. Kid says "I didn't trip him." Coach says "you did I saw it, you take another lap for lying." Everyone saw him do it so that's not in question.

As the kid starts to take his second lap his mom tells him to stop running he doesn't have to do another lap and starts arguing with the coach protesting her sons innocence. This was in front of all the other players and parents. WTF? If my son had tripped a kid and then lied about it I'd tell him to take 5 more laps. I give the coach credit though, instead of handling the situation with kid gloves he told her "He can do his lap or he is off the team." Good job coach. Amazing how the kid who mommy defends when he misbehaves is the worst player on the team and the kids with tough, disciplinarian dads rip base hits all over the yard.

This thread wen completely sideways, but I will answer OP. Regardless of the color or gender of the two cheaters, they should have been treated harshly. It is BS that they weren't. At a minimum, they should have been flunked from the class, the NHS alerted, and their designations revoked.

The coddling of kids is only going to hurt them.

OK, now Fly and Howard can go back to our regularly scheduled programming.
