Could A Billion Bland Somewhat Nutritious Bars Be Made For 0 Million? Could A Billion Bland Somewhat Nutritious Bars Be Made For 0 Million?

They would taste much worse and have less nutrition than things like power bars. So almost no one who wasn't in need would take advantage of a super cheap or free price. But why not have them readily available if technology can make them this inexpensively.? (The details of this idea would be discussed later if the general idea makes sense.)

I love the premise that all the lazy lucky duck brown people would be satisfied and relaxing on EZ street with their slightly better tasting than a power bar handouts.

Just to be clear Power Bars are not nutritious, they are loaded with sugar. There are other bars that are much better for you.

Dollar Tree sells this 6-count item for $1+tax ...

If the tax is 7.75%, for $200M you'd get 1.11B nutrition bars.

The answer is yes, this can and is done. Now what ??

gotta close that "if they taste good, non poor people would take advantage" loophole

This is a good idea in that the Socialists can no longer claim that the government doesn't even guarantee basic food needs of the citizenry. And that would provide a cheap moral buffer for the Conservatives to hand wave away calls for stronger redistribution demands like wage increases or direct cash transfers.

If those tasteless blocks of govt cheese didn't stop the lucky duck welfare recipients from relaxing into the good life, nothing will.

Along the same lines, how much would it cost to build government capsule motels to house all the homeless? The Lords of the Land would really hate that idea and lobby heavily against it, as it would lower real estate prices and they would lose some percentage of their passive (freeloader) income.

In the US there is more empty housing, more foreclosures even, than homeless folk need. Just like in the US there's more food destroyed than hungry folk need. People in the US aren't hungry or outdoors because there isn't "enough"... they just aren't allowed access to any of it, even the excess.

As you correctly point out, landlords would never allow that to happen.

Why not create a healthy, nutritious AND delicious chocolate mousse and make sure everyone is fed. We could do it for a fraction of our defense budget increase.

OK, so you don't mind having your tax dollars go to feed starving people but lol on them if they think it's going to be tasty or very nutritious.

Wait, so are all Sklansky threads him restating run-of-the-mill leftist type ideas as if he was the first to come up with them? Have I just not been noticing this?

I helped give out a mountain of that cheese w/ the community group that I was on the board of. It's certainly not tasteless but has way too much salt.

For DS's idea I'd suggest another 5 milly to add in some NutraSweet.
