Conservatives and Global Warming

What is the philosophical reasoning behind political conservatives predominately hating the notion of global warming?

I think they would each tell you they've analyzed the science behind man-made global warming and determined it bogus.

Maybe it's because of stuff like this:

It's all a conspiracy created by Al Gore. He has bought every climate scientist in the world and most news outlets. Either that or their noise machine is funded by people who own huge carbon-emitting interests.

In order to provide a better material existence for themselves it is necessary to engage in massive land rape of the Earth Mother's natural resources. Since they know they will be dead long before the Earth's atmosphere turns into the equivalent of Venus they can just pretend Global Warming is not a real phenomenon and let the rape of the Earth Mother continue.

Libs love science unless it doesn't suit them. They don't want to hear any science about AIDS being a gay disease, pesticides, nuclear power,IQ being genetic, low IQ and violent crime, solar and wind power vs fossil fuels they cover their ears.

Re: Conservatives and Global Warming

I suspect the most significant reason for the ideological gap is that its existence suggests a greater role for government. I'm not sure that conservatives are really fundamentally more antipathic to science than liberals; I suspect that the majority of liberals would become "anti-science" if a number of significant scientific consensuses developed that were in opposition to prominent liberal ideas.

No you've got it wrong. It's a very puzzling situation given the record of climate model predictions. Which climate model is the most accurate in it's predictions?

Re: Conservatives and Global Warming

If conservatives hate the notion of global warming so much why aren't they doing more to stop it? It's not hatred, it's ambivalence. The environmentalists are the ones who hate the notion of global warming.

The Republicans core constituency has one important faction that is extremely anti science, and another even more important faction that cares a lot more about next year's corporate earnings than long term environmental issues. So like most threads the answer comes down to "people respond to incentives".

x = problem -> solution = more power to the government, higher taxes, more bureaucracy

Re: Conservatives and Global Warming

People rarely accept anything that doesn't conform to their worldview. People won't accept anything until they experience something catastrophic, which is probably past the point of no return. Ice free earth in 100 years without any mitigation/capture/sequester strategy.

Spot on. It's not just a simple question to believe or not believe in global warming. You have to ask yourself if you think the earth is getting warmer. Is it man made? Is it a serious threat? Is there anything humans can do about it? Is giving the govt more power and money the solution to it?

Also when Al Gore ran for prez in 2000 he disclosed his net worth at 1.3 mill. That number today is over 100 mill. He's making a ton of money as a doomsday prophet. Gore informed the public about this catastrophe. Then tells us what the solution has to be. Then puts himself in a position to capitalize on the solution. It seems very dishonest to me. It is at the least a huge conflict of interest.
