It would have been funny if Comey were asked if he noticed Trump's cell phone under a newspaper on the table at any time. Not so funny, if there is a recording, the only copy may be on the cell phone, with Trump the only one who knows for sure it exists.

I agree with DVaut. McCain has never been the political "good guy" that his supporters made him out to be, but this looks like diminished capacity for whatever reason.

I think that he was surprised when Comey drew the distinction between a completed investigation and an ongoing investigation, and then he just started grasping for straws because he had no other point. Olds are not very good at having to change direction on the fly.

So, it's not surprising to me that Comey's testimony isn't going to move the GOP congress any closer to impeachment, but what happens if at some point Mueller publicly accuses Trump of obstruction of justice in the Comey firing? Is that at all likely? I'm not really sure how the role of the special counsel intersects with the nature of impeachment as a political process. I mean, I understand it doesn't create any actual legal obligation for congress, but I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing Mueller would ever announce. Comey seemed to hint that it was part of the investigation.

well at least we can finally put the nail in the coffin of the thought process mccain would do the right thing.

Reportedly he spent his 70th birthday on a russian oligarch yacht with Paul Manafort. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

It is apparently an open question whether a sitting president can be indicted. This was probably assumed a meaningless issue until now because the assumption was that a president getting indicted would resign or be impeached.

Im glad Toobin on CNN made the point that the Comey memos effectively amounts to sounding the alarm about Trump, which counters one defense point.

I can't imagine an indictment against the President would last long when he can fire the US Attorney bringing the indictment. Thus the functional answer is no.

I guess John McCain has Alzheimer's or something? Was he always that stupid? I assume not.

Republicans: Yeah... So, why did you take two right steps and one left, instead of two left steps and one right after Trump said something mildly criminal that we won't ever act on?

I'm more curious about the political impact of Mueller publicly stating that he believes Trump obstructed justice, and if such a statement is something that could plausibly occur, rather than the legal impact. Sure, Trump can dismiss the US attorney but I would imagine that's a lot harder for GOP congresspeople to hand-wave away than Comey's statement that he believes he was fired because of the Russia investigation but can't go further than that.

that was incomprehensible. I've never seen him like that.

"President Comey, when Comey was being investigated by Comey, did Comey every Comey all over Comey?"

This. So much this. Him and Cornyn were the worst. An 8 year old could have understood the difference between investigation A into A thing has concluded while investigation B into B thing has not concluded so we can draw different conclusions while saying the investigations dealt with very different things.

Is this really going to be what partisan hacks latch onto now? I guess it should've been obvious these unpatriotic *******s would latch on to EMAILS at least another 100 times, right?

When are Democrats going to grow a spine and just start calling these people for what they are? They don't give a **** about America. They only give a **** about the Republican party and the power it holds. It's the United States of Republicans and nothing else for them.

Yeah **** this guy and his TROUBLED CONCERN act, he's another ****bag like the rest of them.

Someone in power who is incomprehensible when he speaks and shows signs of mental degradation? At least it's just a single senator and no one more important than that....
06-08-2017 , 01:27 PM
Cornyn was just reading straight from that RNC talking points response to Comey's testimony, right?
