I agree.

So this was confirmed a terrorist attack?

Everyone has confirmed that it was a suicide bomber. I haven't seen anywhere confirm it was a terrorist attack.
05-23-2017 , 01:37 AM
No, we won't know for sure until the fops have a chance to investigate the bomber's motive.

I'm not familiar with the artist, but I'm a musician myself and I think this so disgusting. Music is one of the only things that even the poorest people on earth in the worst conditions can take comfort in. The blues, which is the basis for all of our modern music in the western world, was born out of this when slaves starting singing when working to make living tolerable.

Absolutely sickening

Lirva and I are also musicians

Not much official detail. This is the recent statement from Amber Rudd, The Home Secretary

Quote:
This was a barbaric attack, deliberately targeting some of the most vulnerable in our society – young people and children out at a pop concert.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and victims who have been affected, and I know the whole country will share that view.

I’d like to pay tribute to the emergency services who have worked throughout the night professionally and effectively; they have done an excellent job.

Later on this morning I will be attending Cobra, chaired by the prime minister, to collect more information, to find out more, about this particular attack, and I can’t comment any more on that at the moment.

The public should remain alert but not alarmed. If they have anything to report, they should approach the police.

But I have two further things to add.

The great city of Manchester has been affected by terrorism before. Its spirit was not bowed; its community continued.

This time it has been a particular attack on the most vulnerable in our society. Its intention was to sow fear; its intention is to divide. But it will not succeed.

I've just woken up (in London) to this horrible news and wish I hadn't read this thread and some of the responses in it.

Would those making jokes about the children killed last a few hours ago be making them if this had happened in America?

Trump said Islam is one of the world's great faiths just a couple days ago. How is he gonna solve anything?

Does anyone know if the artist or any members of the band were hurt or killed?
05-23-2017 , 01:48 AM
jalfrezi the other thing was fair...
05-23-2017 , 02:03 AM
In hindsight I thought it was a bit cheap to mention it now, but yeah it's true.

I've learned a lot about a few regs here. It seems some are only concerned with what Trump will say.
05-23-2017 , 02:20 AM
Yeah the jokes are a little much.

I think it took place outside the stadium as people were leaving.

Is this actually a terrorist attack? Probably splitting hairs, but what's the political gain? Does anybody even know what ISIS or its followers even want that would make them stop and go live their lives instead of ruining other people's.
05-23-2017 , 02:40 AM
That's the thing about terrorists, there is no political gain. They just want to kill innocent people and cause misery.
05-23-2017 , 02:42 AM
A group of my daughter's friends were there last night. Thankfully they're ok, but this is absolutely terrifying. This is too close to home.

They want a worldwide caliphate, killing infidels is just one step on the way of realizing that dream and a fast track to martyrdom. This is no secret, they are very open about what they want.

As horrifying and low as this incident is (bombing a bunch of teenage girls at a pop concert) other recent incidents have been almost as horrible.

I mean, they opened fire on a huge concert crowd in France with machine guns just a few months ago and then a few months later ran over hundreds of people with a big truck, etc.

People are all distraught for a few days, tweet a few hashtags, and then we all got right back to focusing on the really important stuff, transgender bathrooms and Miss USA's opinion of universal healthcare.

What's your solution? Be specific.
Obviously people care in the sense that they have empathy for the dead, injured and their families. Other than that having a keep calm and carry on attitude is the right response in my opinion.

Absolutely disagree - there's always an agenda, even if it's not readily apparent. Somehow we always move from 'we don't negotiate with terrorists' to appeasing them and ceding power over time. It's sickening.

Look how the UK has changed its laws on free speech to appease the religious who might be offended by aggressive, vociferous atheism. You think this happens in a vacuum?

+1

they also want to increase tensions between Muslims and the west because they believe that will lead to more young Muslims joining them

Meh, its a fair assumption.

If you roll a dice you're obviously going to assume it'll come up as a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. If it pops up with a 6 then its just a case of huh what do you know?

I think it's quite clear what people mean when they say that. They mean a group taking responsibility for it or finding links to a group. Obviously killing a bunch of people is a terrorist attack. Try being more obtuse.
