Chaos and Carnage in Manchester Chaos and Carnage in Manchester

05-22-2017 , 07:20 PM

Right after an Ariana Grande concert finished, loud bangs were heard (up to 5 minutes away from the concert hall).
Reports of "a number of" fatalities, not clear if fatalities are from trampling amidst panic, but it seems more likely it was an explosion.

the guardian has some live blog updates.

Given its timing (exactly as the show was about to end), I wouldn't be surprised if it was some pyrotechnic **** up where they were supposed to set off fireworks or some stuff like that.

They're pretty aggressive at checking bags and the like entering arenas. I just find it less likely than I would if it was on a street or in a mall where the security is more lax.

I've heard the venue is above a train, dunno if that's true. Also read someone saying it was a transformer (but then I would guess power would have gone out?).

Obviously there's nothing confirmed right now, except there have been fatalities.

CNN and MSNBC practically ignoring this right now. Seems odd.

No idea who the **** this guy is.

This one is too close to home. Seems pretty clear it was an attack (Uk politican leader has said it was an attack) - Police seen dragging someone from car suggests they are believe it to be so.

Just hope the final toll is as low as reasonably hopeful

Not sure what Miller's source of information is for that.

But given the supposed number dead and injured, this is sounding less likely to be a technical error and more like a terrorist attack.

They've said they're treating it as an attack based on protocol.
I've seen some people saying it was a nail bomb set off just outside the building, where people were exiting.
But nothing is known for certain.

Geez why are the CNN headlines on the US version so much bigger than the International version? Do Americans have ****tier vision than the rest of the world? Could definitely do without a single headline taking up 1/4 of my screen.

Helium is flammable. Guess that's another possibility.

We'll have to let it all play out. I'll see it tomorrow morning.

Seems odd that there's so little video, you'd think teenagers and concerts there would be footage everywhere of everything

I wonder if people aren't circulating much because of all the worry of disinformation and what not?

Sounds like there's a chance it was a bunch of giant balloons that blew up - and most injuries came from the stampede. Maybe.

Yeah I was wondering. Could they possibly have ****ed up and put some flammable gas? I guess the balloons were to be dropped - so they should have just been air. Maybe pure oxygen?

Every time something like this happens you get the Muslim hate crowd piling on regardless of whether it was actual Islamist terrorism or not. Hate crimes spiral as a result. No one wants to be responsible for some c*** burning a mosque down.

This is not Pyrotechnics
05-22-2017 , 08:00 PM
Ok now it's sounding more like the injuries came from the blast. But they're still saying it was giant balloons that blew up. That would be a new terrorist vector.

Pretty massive ****up, also you would get zero shrapnel from an exploding balloon, so I sorta doubt that's what happened but who knows.

Who is saying this? I'm hearing that it was an explosion in the foyer as people were leaving.

I always get helium and hydrogen mixed up. Hydrogen of course is flammable.

Follow the links on the Gizmodo article. But they're speculating a lot of things.
