Brexit Referendum Brexit Referendum

I was actually a representative for small IT businesses on a committee that was responsible for IT infrastructure spend from OB1 EU funding.

This was circa 2000 and we still had dial up, trying to explain to heavily mediocre bureaucrats that had never taken a risk or tried to speculate on the future in their lives that yes, the internet was going to be a thing, lets spend the money getting fibre to the curb as this will give Cornwall an amazing USP for inward investment was perhaps one the most face melting experiences as a grown human.

Its all right tho, finally got fibre to the curb last year.

Ok, so your self-employed plumber voting Out to spite bankers and their huge bonuses and because he can't cope with the competition from the EU, is a fabricated myth.

Thanks for the entertaining diversion.

As you were.

You could have googled this yourself you lazy ****.

My figures are obviously a little out of date - its a few years since I last got ripped off by The Great British Tradesman.

They thought they could vote Leave and keep it. Same for Wales. And they can't. So they're stuffed.

stuff like this always seems incredibly partonising to me. yeah it would great if liberal voices were more convincing, but at the end of the day it's people's own choice if they want to vote for dumb stuff. if someone wants to blame innocent foreigners for the problems in their own life then you can tell them that they're wrong and why, but in the end they're all adults and responsible for their own choices. it's nobody else's fault how they vote.

Yes. But in stuffing themselves by voting this way, they've also stuffed everyone else too.

I can imagine.
If you're ahead of the curve in the UK you might as well be talking Swahili to the sort of people you need financial backing from.

Boris Johnson says the UK will continue to "intensify" cooperation with the EU following its vote to leave the EU.
The leading pro-Leave campaigner said exit supporters must accept the 52-48 result was "not entirely overwhelming".

...

"British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down. As the German equivalent of the CBI - the BDI - has very sensibly reminded us, there will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market."
"The only change - and it will not come in any great rush - is that the UK will extricate itself from the EU's extraordinary and opaque system of legislation: the vast and growing corpus of law enacted by a European Court of Justice from which there can be no appeal."

Boris, you chancer!

I can't help it, I love this guy. He wreaks havoc across the world, then offers just going back to how it was as the solution. His balls must be like huge titanium cannonballs. The markets will probably go up 5% if Merkel indicates she likes what he's saying...

You so realize that an hourly rate for a self-employed person, isn't the same as an hourly wage?
Your plumber will presumably have to pay for equipment, a car, gas, etc.
He'll spend additional time writing you bills, buying new equipment and things he is going to install in your home/ office, do his taxes, pay for adverts and so on.
In Germany employers have to pay a Part of social security taxes ob top of the employees wage. Don't know if the same is true in the UK, but that alone would change things a lot and make it hard to compare the rate to your wage.
06-26-2016 , 06:29 PM
Take half of that away for taxes and what not... and 20 hours a week, and you're still looking at 40-50k pounds a year.

christ this guy has no idea what he's doing. this is so unbelievably dumb and dangerous if that's really the goal. best case scenario is that he gets destroyed like tsipras.

can someone cheat and c/p the telegraph column for non-subscribers? it's online now.

If Boris backtrackaments, surely that kills him as an electable leader of the Tories?
06-26-2016 , 06:39 PM
So... Boris Johnson's plan is to get back to status quo minus the ability to influence the legislative process.

This is so so amazing.
06-26-2016 , 06:39 PM
Nothing in that article definitively says he intends to back track, but it does look pretty bad

meaning he still intends to come out of the eu but it may take awhile, by awhile who knows what that means
06-26-2016 , 06:42 PM
I am no political strategist, but if the goal of this referendum was to put this issue to bed and stop UKIP stealing the tory vote, well um, I maybe dumb, but I just feel this is sub optimal.
06-26-2016 , 06:46 PM
it was a mind blowingly stupid move by cameron anyways if you just look at it purely politically from his pov

May have to contribute cash for acess but at a significantly reduced rate. I suggest ~£190M a week - way down from £350m.

What odds can I get on a UKIP majority?

Interesting whether there will be a general election in 2016 after next tory leader elected. If Labour are in disarray still then they probably will and increase there majority as Labour will probably struggle to raise cash to do so.

Also what Faisal Islam said on Sky News was astonishing. That a Tory backbench Boris supporting leave MP said that there's no plan and they though that Downing Street would have a plan if there ever was a vote to leave.

The next tory leadership is going to be about what trading relationship were going to have with the EU. EEA = Free movement of people or Associate Membership = Not as good for trade but no requirement for Free movement of people

As the Daily Mail comments sections were getting a bit too depressingly racist, I've mellowed out a bit and moved on to The Express' ones, which are much more fun.

If you're interested in UKIP, check them out. They treat Farage as the second coming of Christ.

With the never ending barrage of lies and BS from the media I was worried as well. its still sinking in, a statue of Nigel should be erected in every city in Britain to him. with the words. Nobody tried harder than Nigel Farage to free his country from tyranny.
06-26-2016 , 07:22 PM
Reading those comments was the most disturbing thing I have done in years.
06-26-2016 , 07:24 PM
Nigel is the 2nd coming of Thatcher who was the 2nd coming of Christ

set my people free!
