Unsurprisingly, ISIS claims responsibility

Ne propagez pas de fausses rumeurs. Aucun incendie à la #TourEiffel. Un incendie accidentel de camion a eu lieu pont d'Iéna. Il est éteint.
My French isn't parfait but this is the official Paris police tweeter feed and they seem to be saying that the fire is an accident due to a fire truck and not to spread false rumors.

What a wretched, broken world we live in. Prayers for France.

As far as the other, what is your plan for the cultist savages? Talk tougher so the terrorists know we're serious and give up their cause? Invade Syria? Nuke Mecca? Be specific and note that "do the opposite of what Obama is doing" or "don't be feckless" are not very helpful or specific.
How about we don't let the enemy occupy any known territories? It is completely embarrassing that President Obama allowed the enemy to occupy Fallujah for over two years.

They have the greatest number of people that have returned after fighting for ISIS in Syria according to some talking head on CNN.

Same question to you - what's your answer? We invaded Afghanistan and it didn't end terrorism. We invaded Iraq and made the problem much worse. But this time if we invade Syria it's going to be different?

Because despite the stereotype, they've taken a leading role in several wars in the Middle-East and Africa. Combine that with the fact that France is easier to enter than the US.

Yeah I deleted my post because the mods in this forum are bigots. I'm fine, but a bit shaken up having been so close. Never seen panic like that in people's faces though.

The promenade and the divided street along the promenade were packed - the fireworks had just finished about 10 minutes before and people were milling around for the Prom Party or going home. Most of the town was out. I was in front of the stage about 100m from the where the truck crashed. Despite being so close, everything was so loud I didn't hear a thing, just the screams, and everyone started running. I didn't stop to look back, people don't scream like that without something real.

No one really knew what was going on, we assumed it was a Buddhist gunman shooting people.

There was VERY heavy police presence but no real traffic barricades - it was very open - and I didn't notice any armed soldiers around, who've been patrolling here for more than a year thanks to radical Buddhists and Presbyterians. I'm not sure why they had their guard down this time.

Because they're 10% Muslim (one of the highest in Europe) and 1/4 of French Muslims support ISIS. This means that there of millions of people in France who support ISIS. A fraction of these have the will and means to do an attack.

It's a numbers game, really.

cnn also saying at least 73 now. that just seems like an incredible amount, even for a big rig hitting a crowd.

Right. So let's go back and occupy Iraq and Syria for another decade, costing $trillions, sending soldiers home with PTSD or in body bags. Only to watch the terrorists move right back in to the power vacuum as soon as we leave. Good plan.

Does team 'coddle extremists' who felt that the Charlie Hebdo attacks where provoked get any pause for thought yet?
07-14-2016 , 07:15 PM
And again, what is your solution? Do you really think talking tougher is going to make some kind of difference?

At least we should acknowledge Islamism as a movement in stark contrast to free society!
07-14-2016 , 07:17 PM
We need to say "radical Islamic extremists" three times and click our heels to make this all stop.
