So now they will buy 2 16 oz sodas instead of the 1 1-liter soda. Hooray obesity problem solved. Next problem please.

I take it you don't have kids. Ronnie McDonald and the party atmosphere the golden arches created is to get all them kids to somewhat force their parents to either stop, or even going on a special trip. then there is the supersize me phenomenon. 9 out of 10 doctors prefer Camels worked well for tobacco.

This sounds a lot worse then it is. Beverage makers have been silently removing sugars from their products for years. Since the mid 90s most sodas have been nothing more then filtered seawater.

What percentage of a milkshake is considered milk? Can people just replace their 64 ounce Mountain Dew with a 64 ounce milk shake?

At any rate, this is a pretty ridiculous policy, but if it creates conversation about doing something to prevent obesity, then some good can come out of it. To me, a small tax on the products in question that goes toward healthcare costs would be a more rational way to do it.

People have every right to be fat and out of shape, but the rest of society shouldn't have to help subsidize their future healthcare.

Hey I just saw the link in the story where they returned the fatty kid to his mother that we were all having a big debate about a few months back.

Sounds like the kid gained like 10 lbs the first week back with his mom

“Obesity is a nationwide problem, and all over the United States, public health officials are wringing their hands saying, ‘Oh, this is terrible,’ ” Mr. Bloomberg said in an interview on Wednesday in the Governor’s Room at City Hall.

“New York City is not about wringing your hands; it’s about doing something,” he said. “I think that’s what the public wants the mayor to do.”

The case for a tax is better than a ban, but even then it's pretty questionable. The best way to target obese people is to target obese people, but we can't have that because it's paternalistic or something.

The problem is that the poorest people tend to eat the worst stuff - because it's cheap and plentiful.

I agree, it's poison. Eating fatty, deep fried, sugary stuff will kill you fast, REAL fast. Like I said, I still don't like the government telling people what they should/can do.
