If you were a gay couple, why would you want someone who was against your lifestyle photographing your wedding?

I understand it's discrimination and offensive, but to the person doing the photography, it's certainly not pleasant. He or she is not going to take as many nice photos as you would have liked. It's not like a restaurant that is open to the public.

It exists, obviously, but lol if you think it is some deeply-held sincere belief. It's a political reaction.

Obviously their reaction is political as well. Probably some revenge involved too. "I couldn't get married for years because of people like you, so be uncomfortable for three hours."

If the photographer wants a good review or tip they'll take good and numerous pics. And I'm pretty sure the couple would at least avoid hiring a Phelps clan member.

Further, this isn't just about the ceremony itself. This is also about hotels turning away unmarried gay couples, or restaurants refusing to serve gays cuz the owners hates gay money or some nonsense.

Nor should any minister of a religion that same sex marriage is forbidden. That is what the law is aimed at. Protection against a lawsuit from a couple that claim they are discriminated against because they can't have their ceremony held at a church or performed by a priest. Both parties still get their day in court.

Well then it's a dumb law since churches are allowed to discriminate.

It's weird that you recognize it would shield them from lawsuits but then claim they'd both get their day in court.

Rara wildly inventing a new definition for what this law aims to do, one that not even its sponsors would attempt to use

Yeah everybody knows that it is the gay wedding industry discrimination act. Always has been, always will be, don't care if you change the language, #letthemeatcake.

IANAL, but I'm pretty sure churches aren't considered public accommodations. So no, priests don't have to do gay marriages or ordain women if they don't want to.

Why did black people want to eat at those lunch counters when they knew the servers didn't like them?

I understand, I did not mean to imply the RFRA changed anything. Not sure what legal principal provides religious leaders freedom to discriminate. Public accommodation is not intuitive. Can you keep a gay person out of the Sunday mass legally?

Looking up history of gay marriage. Nero and Pythagorus were married to each other.

As I understand it, they're a kind of private club. Like how the Augusta Jational Golf Club was able to keep women out until recently. idk what exactly determines what a public accomodation is.

Sometimes it works.

Guy named Chris Sims, a comics blogger/writer just got his first gig with Marvel.

Like 5 years ago he waged an online war against some lady who he didn't like and it got pretty ugly- but in the intervening years he changed a ton and he and the site he writes for (Comics Alliance) have been pretty important voices about progressive stuff in politics.

Well after his new assignment was announced, some Game Gate ****s who hate CA because like, they'd prefer a Super Girl whose skirt they can look up, dig up his past (which is admittedly pretty ****ty) and because Comics Social media right now is in a rather overzealous fever pitch, a guy with a lot of good stuff to say, and who makes a good example of somebody who grew, realized he was wrong- has been (hopefully only temporarily) silenced.

All by the stupid "OMG HYPOCRISY" gambit that these ****s love.

Noah's jokes were terrible though. But then comedians on twitter are in general the damn worse.

Man the latest Vice magazine on Surrogacy services in India is depressing and mindblowing. I can't watch this show on a regular basis or I get too freaked out about the world.

What are the chances that a guy that bullies fast food employees is a complete Dick?

great segment on democracy now, regarding the rich history on one of my favorite magazines, the nation.

and one hell of a history it is. so many talented writers have written for the nation, as they share in the piece. that james baldwin thing talking about no-knock warrants and stop and frisk was crazy.

Vox points out that those foodies, and "food movement" members, who want organic, grass fed, free range, sustainable grown, farm to table, etc meals are keenly interested in the conditions of the food but not those who labor over it.

Quote:
Given the size of the food system, the conditions laborers face from tomato to takeout, and the popularity of other ethical eating aspects, the labor issue really ought to be sparking a national reckoning. But it isn't even close. One example: while employed for six months at an upscale organic-local market in a progressive enclave of Washington, DC, I fielded many questions about the local or organic status of produce or the humane raising of meat. Not once did any customer ask about the labor conditions behind a product or whether the store's employees were making a living wage.
