I am not sure it's a local issue. Obama can say "look at these crazy conservatives they don't even think I am an American how do you expect me to work with these nutjobs?" I think independent voters can be swayed by this argument.

If the subject ends now then it wont have an effect. If anything more comes from it including:

1, this comes up in the Republican debate
2, this comes up in the actual race debate
3, the media picks up on it as its a slow news day
4, the most significant is a state inc AZ tries to block Obama from being on the ticket because of his "fake" birth cert

then Obama will just uber crush the racists who keep going on about this.

If the GOP nominee is not saying it, independents aren't going to take a few nutjobs as speaking for the GOP nominee and vote against him.

There are plenty of nutjobs on the left, but they won't drag down Obama either.

McCain had to defend Obama on the trail in the last election due to nutjobs asking about how he was a secret muslim kenyan. Its pretty likely Romney will have to do the same when he wins the nomination.

I don't think it will be an election deciding difference I just wish "our" nutjobs would knock it off.
