By Falcon's logic all social workers should universally realize that the poors are worthless, and have little sympathy for their plight.

Or maybe old middle-class boomers are somehow in the sweet spot of just enough experience with poor people to know what's up, but not too much to lose their objectivity. I mean we know entitled white boomers are right about everything else, so we should probably give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Or maybe people who go to church are just shallow and suspicious of other people. (Not saying they are, but as long as we are making things up...)

Will comment more later, but I just want to say I don't like the tone in here and I fear it may make me vote for Trump just fyi.

LOL at old bible study ladies having more contact with poor people. Definitely mostly grandmas framing houses for habitat for humanity and washing dishes at the local soup kitchen.

I heard doctors without borders is doing big a recruiting drive next month at all the old folks homes. Those geriatrics are the only ones who really know how to work with the poors.

miller, that is a pretty hot take. I will put you down on #TeamRiverman. Who else here thinks that non-religious young people have more personal contact with the poors than the church ladies?
08-04-2017 , 05:36 AM
Does church ladies voting for politicians, laws and policies that increase the numbers of and **** over the poor count as contact?
08-04-2017 , 05:55 AM
Not for this poll. Ty for asking.

Both of my parents are boomers that fall in the "hyper religious and very active with the poor" category, so I'm not denying that they exist existence. Both of them do more than I do, and it's probably driven by their religiousness.

That said, I think you are way, way underestimating the number of "millennials" (hate that term) that have decided to give back to their community in some way--it's supposedly one of the defining characteristics of this generation. Young people are also much more likely to live in cities, where there are more poors and more programs for the poors.

So yea, I'm not saying you're outright wrong because I don't have the numbers, but you are probably wrong on a per capita basis if the comparison is "old church goers" vs "young non-church-goers".

If you factor in the policies supported by the old racist church-goers, it becomes super one-sided.

Give a man a fish and you feel better about having voted to deny millions the ability to fish for themselves.

Many non-religious young people are poor themselves.

Why do the little old church ladies get all the credit? What about the wrinkly old church men? Reverse sexism up in here!

Sounds familiar.

Your low faux-righteous trollery is a little hypocritical. It is probably true that the wags here don't have a lot of contact with old church ladies, but how many Yalie safe-spacers do you hang out with? I work at a fancy school know tons of millennial lefties from fancy schools and most of them work directly with the underprivileged. Quite a few make a career out of it!

Conversely, my drunk-ass Trumpkin Stepdad gave 75 bucks to Ducks Unlimited in 1994, the end. I am reminded of this every time I visit home since he still wears the sweatshirt they gave him for the donation.

Not sure what the take-away from this is supposed to be.

Old white church ladies in exurbs bussing themselves in by the thousands on a daily basis to assist poors in dense urban areas while millennials in helping professions stand idly by, stay tuned for more details.

This. Who gives a **** if old church ladies do have more contact with the poor if they turn right around and vote for Sharia bans, ending Medicaid, food stamps, and allowing ICE to destroy the homes and families of poor immigrants?

Do your parents think the poor are poor mostly because of bad decisions?

Tbh I have never really asked them or gotten into a discussion about it, but suspect they're slightly to the "yes" side of that for Americans but on the "no" side for foreigners (for example, they travel to Haiti each year, and I doubt they think the poor there are due to poor decision making).

I don't think it's a stretch that religious people volunteer more.

http://www.pewforum.org/2016/04/12/r...everyday-life/

I worked on affordable housing for about five years in a government program that involved non- government sponsors and it was fairly dominated by religious groups.

Old white church ladies aren't all Trumkins though. My MiL is an old white church lady and passionate Republican hater.

Old white church ladies know how shiftless and ungrateful the poor are, so they vote for common sense food stamp budget cuts.
