How in the world is that a judge? I can only imagine his all-consuming outrage at Trump's history.

Don't think for a second that Skanky McMegaskank is in any way unique. That repulsive Instagram "sacrifice" quote is like a stock response from Country Club Wives across America. She is absolutely representative of the prevailing view of upper middle class and above white women.

Got Jonah Goldberg to reply to me on twitter today because I called out bad NRO writing against Kaepernick/Bennett. He's such a moron.

Back after Trump won the nomination I created a Twitter account for the sole purpose of tweeting at him "Any chance the GOP nominating a crypto-fascist for President rates a footnote in the next edition of Liberal Fascism?". He replied to me as well, just saying "watch this space".

He's a long time NeverTrumper and I actually think he's one of the more well-meaning people on the right, so after he reacted with dismay to Trump's equivocation on Charlottesville, I wondered whether he was on the point of learning something. But then, in the middle of an article about how much of a lost cause Trump is, we get this:

Quote:
The really infuriating part of this Manicheanism is its retroactivity. In the post-Charlottesville tumult, liberals have convinced themselves that the GOP is simply the face of institutional racism. Sadly, Donald Trump has made that an easy charge to levy. But as Kevin Williamson notes, this rush to tear down Confederate statues is really an example of the Democratic party cleaning up a mess it created. I’m reminded of something George Clooney said a decade ago: “Yes, I’m a liberal, and I’m sick of it being a bad word. I don’t know at what time in history liberals have stood on the wrong side of social issues.” One could be charitable and say, “It depends what you mean by liberal.” But as an institutional matter, the Democratic party’s history on race is far, far worse than the GOP’s. It breaks my heart that the GOP has allowed this to be forgotten. But as an historical matter, the idea that the party of Woodrow Wilson, Josephus Daniels, Robert Byrd, William Fulbright, Richard Ely, et al. has been the great bulwark against racism is laughable.
Yup, he's a moron.

Where did parties fall on (non-racial) social issues before the Civil Rights realignment? idk what the issues of the day were (sex? alcohol?) but I'm curious if everyone kinda swapped places or if it was a more nuanced transformation; for example, economic liberalism (big government stimulus) (I hope I'm not using that term incorrectly since "liberal" can mean 75 different things depending on context) was a Democratic Party thing that predated the Civil Rights era.

I love that leap. George Clooney said he's sick of liberal being a bad word? Well some Democrats once supported segregation. Chessmate.

The Democrats are the real racists because Dixiecrats is a meme that will never die. It's irrelevant that the arguments of the GOP re : voting rights, LGBT rights, and religion are the exact same states rights gobbledygook peddled by the Dixiecrats. All that matters is that modern libs/socialists and Southern segregationists both voted for the party called "Democrat."

That's history, not the current state of things.

You know what I'm sick of? The "Jared and Ivanka will talk him off the ledge" bull**** that every major news organization runs every other day. **** that.

They are usually anonymously sourced stories where it's pretty obvious the sources are Jared and Ivanka. As long as you treat the stories not as a sincere prediction as to what will happen, but instead an image cultivated by Jared and Ivanka of what they want you to think happens, then I think it's sort of "insightful." That is, you get an insight into the brand/image Jared/Ivanka are trying to cultivate for themselves. It seems like it's usually peacocking for their more liberal friends and social network in NYC or whatever: yeah well dad did this boorish thing but we are in his ear, trying to stop him.

Haha exactly. 2 unamed sources have stated that... I mean [job] come on [/job]

I mean I don't think journalists should make themselves Jared/Ivanka's press office nor should they play stenographer for them, nor is there any real reason to just let them gossip off the record. All of that is just bad form.

BUT, OK, once you concede like the whole industry is poisoned and you accept it for what it is, you learn who and what Jared and Ivanka are gossiping about. It's mostly just an exercise of branding themselves and cultivating palace intrigue, so it's not like actually that useful, just minorly interesting once you accept it for what it is. Rather than like real reporting where the journalist is trying to portray a picture of the empirical reality. It's clearly not that. I think riverman's style of frustration assumes the reporter is trying to paint for you a picture of what really influences Trump and how power is really operating, like a good journalist might set out to do. I can see the frustration from that perspective. Instead just read them as Jared/Ivanka press releases.

You can also glean some information as to who they are leaking to and who they see as important and who they don't leak to. It's alot of old print media like the NYT. They keep themselves at arm's length from Brietbart. etc. You can see how they are trying to manage their image by who they gossip with and where they want the gossip to appear.

She's also binge-watched the entire John Oliver back catalogue, and is hungry for more.

Obviously the above are mostly weighted towards satire, but anything that manages to be entertaining whilst also informative would be great. She's looking to learn more about UK and US politics / current affairs in particular, though obviously most of the news content right now revolves around Trump.

Appreciate any recommendations!
I'm sure they've been mentioned but grunching a bit.

The stuff from crooked media is all good. Pod save America, pod save the world, pod save the people, with friends like these.

So you're saying you don't believe the stories saying Kush helped get Bannon out?

Bannon seemed to be under the impression Kushner was leaking to Drudge.

Niece with aspergers is signing a contract with a modeling company called Supreme Management in NYC and I'm trying to figure out how scammy it is. Google tells me the company is very legit but I can't help but suspect she's being taken advantage of somehow. How do these processes go? Assuming it's legit what income expectations would a newly signed model at a reputable agency have? TIA.

Now that that's out of the way, clients contact agencies with a price range. Low end work like booth babes and eye candy for nightclubs might pay $100-200/day and she might get that kind of work a couple times a month. The client doesnt care a lot who they get and the agency sends someone over. Clients willing to pay more for something like newspaper ads flip through a catalogue of models, the ladies who get picked for that work more often get pushed by the agency and move up the modeling ladder.

Also, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
