Is using an existing set of materials (paint, brushes, canvas) to express an idea considered art?

Also, is poetry art?

We've gone over both of your questions!

Describing things as an art rather then a science is more science than art. Or maybe I have that backwards.

This discussion is AIDS, is the takeaway here.

As a software engineer, I would love to weigh in on this discussion. However, I'm too busy filling out needless paperwork, arguing with PMO, trying to stay awake in pointless meetings, and submitting daily status reports. I'll tell you if my code is art if I ever get around to actually writing any.

You know, one can conceivably have the same arguments of taking a dump. One can artfully take a dump. Clearly it's art!

On a serious note, I suppose code golf (least number of strokes) on StackExchange qualifies as serious art.
