Agree, borders should be open.
Agree, welfare state and labor laws make open borders a net negative for US.
Disagree that opening borders will get rid of those crappy laws. Hispanics lean pretty hard on the left.

Re: Arizona passes controversial immigration bill...
I heard somewhere that illegal immigrants equate to about 2.5 billion dollars of the economy in Arizona.
OK checked for a source. Its 29 billion (lawl) and i heard it on Colbert but the source is the University of Arizona from a 2007 study.
Harassing brown people clearly isnt the answer and deporting illegals isnt the answer either. Given Obama is moving on to immigration reform why does Arizona even feel the need to pass a law now?

Re: Arizona passes controversial immigration bill...
I say we pass a law where the police have a right to ask you if you have ever broken a law, and if you say yes you get arrested, and if you say no they have a right to search your house, your computers, go interview your boss etc to see if you've broken the law
NATION OF LAWS AM I RITE!!!

Re: Arizona passes controversial immigration bill...
Or how about a law where anyone listening to music publicly can be asked by police to show proof that they purchased the music?

Re: Arizona passes controversial immigration bill...
Wow-just wow. I guess the illegals that killed my 3 friends in Tempe should have every right to come across our borders illegally to peddle their narcotics, human cargo and such and then murder Americans who get int he way.
The amount of crime alone that is forged upon Americans by illegal aliens is enough reason to secure and protect our borders which in turn will allow our citizens to be murdered by other Americans instead of Illegal aliens and Americans ido

Reason: Rule of law does not matter, only civil rights to Illegals matter

So much facepalm. If the borders were open and drugs were legal there would be no people smuggling drug runners around to murder anyone. DUCY?

Does that music kill people who stand in the way of human smuggling/drugs?
Sir, please turn down that bootlegged Akon as it could lead to death and/or dismemberment of ears.

I don't think anyone in this thread is for letting people get away with murders...
The murder is the bad thing, not the crossing the border.
Wait, now that I re-read it I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic.

LOL- RU serious? If the borders were open we wouldn't have a country. DUCY?
Even if we did have open borders, drugs would still be here and would still have a juicy market.
So you do not want to label and itemize countries? You would prefer one big blob of territory where blob tax payers pay for every person to enjoy said blob?
Welcome to the BLOB ladies and gentlemen. Just come rape, pillage, and use anything you wish. The blob peasants will pay for you.

This is simply not true. Illegal immigration is a problem in other countries too - India currently has a problem with illegals from Bangladesh and Thailand is similar with people from Burma. Anytime you have a place of (relative) prosperity bordering one that's depressed you're going to have people who cross the border - it is just a line on a map, after all. Look at all the people who crossed the Berlin Wall or escaped from the USSR.
Regarding the law, I don't see how it can possibly stand up to an appeal on the fourth amendment. From what I understand the challenges have started already.

It's blowing my mind too. The thought of a cop in the United States of America coming up to someone and demanding "Papers please!" makes me sick to my stomach.

Then how about going after CRIME instead of just illegals, or ANY one particular group of people for that matter?

I don't think anyone should have to pay for anyone else if they don't wish to. I also think that if anyone immigrant or no rapes pillages or murders they should be harsly dealt with.

Nice catch. I was and I am interested in listening to everyone regarding immigration policy. I know our system is completely broken now and it can obviously only improve.
Keeping this in mind, I am also aware that the level of crime and burden on our nation along with the current state of our economy cannot sustain a huge influx of potential job seekers and people who lean so heavily on our medical system and entitlement programs.
So this bill is an extreme measure without a doubt- but for those of you who do not like it, please make your case for amnesty, since that is what you must support if you are against this bill.

For me, it comes down to knowing that I don't have any right to tell a person he or she cannot live where he or she wants to live.
From what I understand, your characterization of illegal immigrants as individuals who lean on the system has been discredited afaik. In fact, illegal immigrants pay into the system and never get anything back (eg, social security).
