ikes, you are currently being needlessly contrarian in this freaking thread out of like what, a general principle of kinship with homophobes?
You might not share their particular bigotry, but you still think they are victims of typical lefty mod bias and bigots in general get a bad rap around here or something. You popped in here to show your solidarity with people who hate gays, even though you had(have) no idea why Stu Pidasso actually got banned.

It should be exactly the opposite. Every religion gets to define marriage. Any religion can choose to perform a gay marriage. No religion should be forced to recognize a gay marriage. Homosexuality pre-dates Christianity. Gay marriage does not.

Re: Is anyone, like anyone at all, against gay marriage?
I think 'legally' call all the legal part of it civil unions. Because let's face it, most of us when we hear two gays got married are going to say, "congratulations on your wedding."
The best part of this (to me) is that this will annoy all the bigots anyways because there semantics games will only be meaningful to them and be ignored by pretty much everyone else.

Since marriage predates christianity, this would mean gay marriage is a product of christianity since, it is only post-christianity. Nice.

The partisan gap over same-sex marriage continues to widen, with 65 percent of Democrats now supporting it compared to 24 percent of Republicans, according to poll released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center.
The poll found an increase in support among Democrats since President Barack Obama announced in May that he favors same-sex marriage. In April, a Pew poll gauged support among Democrats at 59 percent.
|
Also, I must say it's pretty sweet that the Dems are adding gay marriage to their platform in North Carolina, the most recent state to enshrine bigotry into its state constitution.

They are welcome to not perform gay marriages but gay marriage should be legal, if any religious groups want to perform them then they can, if they dont or if the couple dont want a religious marriage then a secular ceremony should be available.

Re: Is anyone, like anyone at all, against gay marriage?
You guys might have missed it in light of all of the other exciting legal news today, but yet another Federal court (this time in CT), just ruled that DOMA's definition of marriage between a man and a woman was unconstitutional.
The court found sexual orientation to be a suspect class, but said that, even under a lower, rational basis, level of scrutiny that DOMA was unconstitutional...

In what way would the governments decision force any religion to recognize gay marriage?

Re: Is anyone, like anyone at all, against gay marriage?
A lot of people went to chic-fil-a yesterday. I drove past.
Strangely, I didn't see a lot of people standing in chic-fil-a yelling that the people eating there were homophobes and bigots. It must be easier to be bigoted against people with differing religious or social beliefs on the interwebs.
It appears that a few people still support traditional marriage and/or the chic-fil-a presidents right to express his opinion (which he did in an interview with a religious magazine) without being attacked by a different set of bigots.
I'm sticking with my everyone or no one opinion.

Re: Is anyone, like anyone at all, against gay marriage?
I dislike people who are against gay marriage, but I'm ok with their right to say it. The same as if I'm ok with people saying they are against interracial marriage and whatever else bigots say/do. They have a right to say it even if I disagree.
I do like chic-fil-a though.

Re: Is anyone, like anyone at all, against gay marriage?
I kinda disklike the idea of marriage. Just seems wired, somehow. I ask heterosexual enganged people: why do you wanna get married? Answer: we want children and it's easier with the legal stuff and so on.
I ask homosexual enganged people: why do you wanna get married? Answer: because we love each other.
I don't mind gay couples getting married. As long as they are together, they are together and they will do the exactly same stuff as if they were not married, so in my 'head' everything is the same, no matter if they are married or not.
However, I dislike gay couples adopting childs. Simply because I believe that a child should grow up with a mother and a father and that will grow up healthier that way. Then again, neither a male-gay nor a female-gay couple do need adoption nowadays, there are workarounds.
