Does anyone still identify as an ancap in here?

Is it weird that Taso and PVN are on the opposite side of the spectrum now?

What happened to Borodog?

I'm sure there's still a few still around that want to pretend it's not completely absurd

Yeah it's crazy how many regulars here bought into this. I know I did a little bit. It's honestly hard to imagine a worse system.

They're still 100% on the same page.

I would have thought after the election of 2016, many people would be more open to the idea that maybe government shouldn't have so much power over our lives.

Oh, power is only bad when the other team has it. Got it.

fyp and yes.

The point is that even in an AC society, power will eventually converge, and you will have even less control than now over who has it.

I think pvn's D&D alignment is true neutral.

Taso was all about Ron Paul in some recent threads so he has barely moved. pvn has clearly evened out but is not the OPPOSITE of ACist (which I think involves each person having a government handler who instructs them on everything).

BTW there was nothing more tedious than those college sophomore level discussions of consent that dominated the forum for like 2-3 years.

Don't lie, player; those were the good times.

Saw this tweet the other day and had legit flashbacks.

A reality TV star has the nuclear codes. I don't really think we're in control now.

I'm not advocating AC. But if my choice is between an effort to reduce power no matter who is in charge and this weird seesaw action where two wildly different parties go in and out of power driving the other half insane with big changes, I would pick the reduced power. I am surprised more people don't see it that way. But most are just pushing their own agenda hard no matter the consequences of losing that power later.

To be fair the political leanings of the whole forum were actually changed because of all those arguments. You may have thought all the ancaps to be dumb, but you have to give them some credit for being able to change their political views and in acknowledging better arguments. Outside of 2+2 that probably doesn't happen very often on an internet politics forum.

After this election it turned out all the extreme libertarians were really just fascists all along, who knew? (Not all of the libertarians on this board, but like just all the libertarians in society).

I think the ancaps aged out of it more than were convinced. It's a misanthropic adolescent male fantasy. If people got married and had kids it's not surprising that they would shy away from the political philosophy of The Road Warrior.

Pvn supported Bernie and hates Trump.

Tomdemaine is the only one I can think of who changed his mind. The rest seem to have left or gotten themselves banned.

I changed my mind fairly publicly and loudly; may have been before your time, though. I basically went:

Typical liberal > ACist > Left-libertarian > Social democrat

I agree with the comments above about the actual progress that's been made in discourse on this forum. It's one of the few places on the world wide interwebs where some semblance of rationality tends to prevail. I'm sure that's influenced by the systematic thinking that poker requires.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Dr. M. Think his ACist phase was well before my time.

Try the pervasive neo-liberal/freemarket capitalism that destroyed the global financial system and transferred trillions from poor to rich.

yeah ACism would certainly be worse than the status quo, if that's what you're saying. I say that comfortably and with full acknowledgement that the status quo is broken.

ACism is the worst parts of anarchism (ie an anarchism with no shared goals and community) and the worst parts of capitalism (which is inherently exploitative and must be regulated) combined. It's a joke.
