Re: Active/recent terrorist acts catch-all thread

just saw some recent reports on solo terrorism

75% of terror attacks in the west has been from solo terrorists.

40% of solo terrorists have a history of violence and about the same amount have been in prison at some point.

they have in general poor connection to work life and bad economy.

they are 13 times as likely to have some mental problems compared to ppl that do terror in groups.

in >60% of cases the terrorist have told someone in his environment about his terror plans

in 1/3 of cases the solo terrorist has experienced stressful trigger events in the year before they perform terror.

they plan their terror in many months ahead, its not impulsive.

they perform terror for status and recognition. it starts with a poor life situation that is frustrating and then they connect it to some terror ideology to justify their violence.

this is sort of the same thing we see in right wing extremists that perform violence. its typically a guy that had a lot of problems in their earlier life and has already been violent in the past. a typical right wing extremist doesnt perform violence out of thin air, violence is highly irregular and its typically these unstable personalities that eventually cross the red line.

right wing extremists have killed hundreds of people in europe the past 1-2 decades or so, i cant remember exactly, but especially russia have alot of it. it doesnt make the news that much since its typically incidents where there is 1-2 victims whereas in islamic terror there is like a whole bunch. typically the targets from right wing extremists are gays and immigrants etc.

there was some waves of anarchistic terror also some decades ago also aswell as some left wing extremism. the left wing extremists victim groups was what typically business leaders etc.

You'd struggle to find anyone who really cares about this, obv. Terrorism is only relevant when white people are ascurrred of brown people, hence why the baseball shooting wasn't posted here either.

I think einbert needs his own thread where he can post walls of what ever he wants all day long and we can ignore it. Yeah?

At least nine killed in restaurant siege

Quote:
Gunmen posing as military forces held dozens of people hostage inside a popular restaurant in Somalia’s capital, in an attack that began when a car bomb exploded at the gate, police and a witness have said, while the extremist group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility.

Two of the gunmen were shot dead and 10 hostages were rescued but five other attackers were thought to remain inside, cutting off electricity to complicate security forces’ efforts to end the siege, Cpt Mohamed Hussein said. He said heavy gunfire was heard.

Police said at least nine people had been killed and several wounded in the initial attack. Most of the victims were young men who were entering the Pizza House when the vehicle exploded, Hussein said.

Islamic State cells in nearly all Indonesian provinces: military chief

Quote:
General Gatot Nurmantyo's comments late on Monday that there are clandestine "sleeper" cells across the sprawling Indonesian archipelago underscored concerns about Islamic State's growing influence in Southeast Asia.

Governments across the region have been on high alert since Islamic State-linked militants, mostly from Southeast Asian countries, overran a city in the southern Philippines about three weeks ago.

The Philippine military, which has carried out air strikes and raids in Marawi city, said on Tuesday the militants still control about 20 percent of the city.

Bomb explodes outside kindergarten in China, killing 8 including the bomber

Crazy to think that if this happened in the West and was done by Muslims, it would probably start a war (think if the fury of Democrats on gun control after Sandy Hook was instead placed in the hands of Republicans and directed at Muslims). In China, it's barely a blip in Western news.

Egypt Hisham Barakat killing: 30 sentenced to death

Quote:
Hisham Barakat was assassinated in a car bomb attack in June 2015.
He was the most senior state official to be killed by militants in recent years.
Mr Barakat had sent thousands of Islamists to trial since the overthrow of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood-backed government in 2013.
Hundreds of Islamists were sentenced to death or life imprisonment, as part of a crackdown on supporters of the banned group.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you didn't say this about the US/UK/Coalition's involvement in the Middle East.

No, I'm 100% of the opinion that this conflict will not end until the West comes to terms with the fact that we are targets because we've spent the last several generations propping up oppressive regimes and stealing the mineral wealth from the Middle East.

I also very much fear what the Western response to continued attacks will be. Both for ourselves and the billions of innocent people who live in the Middle East.

They should send that guy to Syria and turn him over to ISIS to handle dishing out justice.

Nice misquote. Hi Donald.

He said being prepared for terrorist attacks was part and parcel of city life, i.e. everyone needs to be vigilant and do their bit to stop them. Your quote makes it sounds like he's said we should all just be resigned to the fact that they will happen - which is the more or less the opposite message.
