I checked the FAQ, but those links seem to be dead.

Is there a resource (free or for-pay) where you can download historical lines and results for either NFL or college football? Maybe for past 5-10 years

I found some NFL data (not sure how reliable it is) at http://killersports.com/
Their "handicapping bible" is loltastic though, I've never seen such blatant examples of datafitting.

Not sure of any good sources for college fb.

Thanks for the input. IT looks like the first one you have to do the SQL quieries yourself and the other one is not organized well at all.

Does there exist anywhere a database already compiled of date of game, line, teams, and result?

I'm willing to pay for it.

Edit: I'm looking to do all my own analysis, etc. just want the raw databse, hopefully in a clean/workable form

5 years of hand input in NFL is what, an afternoon's worth of your valuable time? I'm sure game, teams, result is trivial to download from NFL.com or somewhere else.

Phil Steele's magazine has line data from past 5 years of college. Not sure if he publishes that stuff online though.

I purchased a db this last month that has lines, o/u, and the game logs, cost was $29 for all FBS since 1983.

kostats if you want to pay for a database. Goldsheet, Covers, and Statfox have it for free on the web and it shouldn't take too long to grab that into a database.

Yeah, hand inputting 1280 numbers should take what, 30-40 minutes? 20 if you 10-key it? Maybe an hour to grab it off one of the already named sites for free? Hard work I guess.

I was going through some NCAAB data from goldsheet today. Does anyone know if their closing line is generally accurate? I was fooling around with data from the seasons ending 2006-2009 and I noticed that teams favored by 6.5, 7.5 and 8.5 covered at an amazing rate.

6.5 over 55% of the time (sample size of 426)
7.5 over 53% (404),
8.5 close to 55% (373)

This looks like garbage.

Is anyone using this data? I believe they sell more up to date data - is it accurate?

I am looking to buy NCAAB data. So far I have found that kostats will sell a database going back to 2001 for $500. Before I spend that I want to see if I can find good data for free/cheaper.

OK, thanks. I am going to PM him and make a lowball, errr very fair, offer for an NCAAB database. The KOstats one sounds nice, but maybe rsigley will let his go for a better price if I promise not to share it. Besides, he probably has a more accurate closing line anyway.

Does anyone have any experience with these databases:

1. KOstats. I am specifically interested in the CBB one, but if you have experience with any of them I would love to hear it. This one cost $500.

2. sportsinsights. I am not interested in the percentages of who supposedly bet what, what I want is accurate closing lines. How is this database? $200

kostats is StevieY, longtime host at SSB who posts over at RAS's site now. I have not heard any complaints about him and if his databases are as meticulous as his record keeping I would trust them to be accurate.
