It was reasonable to assume he might tank at first, but it would've been dumb to bet on it after the line moved so drastically.
I thought this was gonna be a tank too at first, but then I realized all he had to do was win 2 matches in this extremely weak field to get his career high ranking in the top 20. So then it made a lot more sense why he chose to play this crappy little tournament. It was about whoring up easy points, not appearance fees.
Being at the opening ceremonies is really not a big deal to some players. There's a lot of players who are in london but skipped the ceremony simply because they have to get up early tomorrow to play their first match.
It's funny how pretty much every veteran player has been accused of match fixing by some disgruntled punter at some point.
