Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

Ask to speak to his lawyer. If he declines, give it a week or two then snitch on him for either running a pool or passing bad checks. (Why not both?)

But then what if he goes to court and the judge decrees the guy has to be his butler since he has no money? I mean it would be cool to have a butler, but $25,000 seems cooler

Thanks for trying to make me laugh. I'm so frigging aggravated, because I know story is partly bull*****. While his Father did pass away, he is using that to mask what appears to be the fact the he spent prize pool.

I do think he intended to use money from "inheritance" to pay off the winners, but that money has gotten held up by the courts and his brother contesting the will.

This is all just so f-ed up.

Lesson kids is don't get into pools with shady people or people you don't know that well.

If you're sure the will is being contested, just wait.

This seems to be consensus opinion of people involved and waiting to get paid. Guy running pool is obviously a loser scumbag who mismanaged pool horribly.

Our best and probably only hope is once estate is resolved we get some or all of our money. I spoke with pool manager and his brother that is contesting the will is a known scumbag, arrested over 6 times for domestic violence, assault, burglary, failure to appear, etc.. The kicker is the scum bag brother is also in the pool.

I'm the fool that got into this pool partly because a friend won it a few years back and was paid promptly.

Again, the pool manager has lived in same community over 10 years, owns his house, has two kids under 10 years of age. Has never been arrested as far as we know. I don't think he is just taking off. I imagine he is in serious financial straits. Doesn't justify him stealing/"borrowing" the prize pool.

So, while the pool manager has a last name that ends in a vowel, so does one of the winners who I've spoken to. The other winner mentioned having some "hot headed relatives" that want to go over to managers house to "settle-up". I don't think there is any value in threatening or actually assaulting the manager or vandalizing his property.

Considering he has small children I'd be more tempted to just snitch on him for passing fake checks.

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

UPDATE Monday February 13

Ok, so one of our partners spoke with pool manager. Manager is saying that he will try to release one of the 4 checks this week for around 6k.

Not sure if that is good, we get some money, or bad, he clearly has some money but not all money.

Also spoke with one of the other winners who was not concerned and said we'll get paid. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't paid already.

There are three of us each due approximately 24k.

This has turned into the sweat of my life.

One partner is ready to rain holy hell (local, county, state police, IRS, contacting work place, etc....) down on the manager if he doesn't pay. Only question becomes how much time do we give the manager?

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

Did you establish that there is actually money tied up in the estate?

If he's on a payment plan and keeps to it, forever. No reason to cause yourself extra hassle and then not get paid for spite.

Once again, I appreciate and agree with your advice. It appears that there is an estate, but not sure how much is "tied-up" in it.

I agree that raining down a ***** storm on manager eliminates chances of us getting paid.

Should know more this week.

Partners and I have started a new pool predicting date when we will get paid. Pool expires August 1, 2017. No payment by then all bets are off...including our willingness to be civil toward Pool Manager.

Ask him to mail checks to one of you. Then you can rope in mail fraud into the existing violations.

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

Ask to see a bank statement with the deposit and still present 88k? My guess is his attorneys have "advised him not to share his bank account info" with anyone until all this is sorted out. lol

Can you imagine what it looks like? Hundreds of withdrawals at local casinos and racetracks? Maybe this is the guy that bought the Harambe cheeto?

The possibilities are endless....

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

The guy has a wife, kids and a house. Why would he be keeping 88k related to a Survivor Pool in any bank account connected to his father.

I have seen some shady sh** go down when a wealthy relative of mine died but why would his personal assets be frozen? What if he needed a new roof on his house? I think he would find a way to pay that bill.

Hope he gets the inheritance and you get your money OP but problem with people like this is that the Survivor Pool is probably one of many debts he has earmarked with the inheritance money.

UPDATE: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay 2/17/17

UPDATE: 2/17/17

We received partial payment of $5000 out of the 24K owed! Moving in the right direction! Pool Manager said he'd tried to release additional funds next week.

I'll keep everyone posted!

Nice development, gl and hope the rest gets paid

Sounds like he spent/degenned the money planning to pay out of his inheritance and didn't expect it to get contested/tied up and is trying to pay at least so that's good.

Hey SwoopAE, totally agree he spent $$$$$ and figured he'd pay out of hesitance which get held up. When he was asked where is the money he collected he said tied up in his father's estate which makes NO sense at all.

At least we have part and he is communicating with us. He said he'll try to get more to us next week and expects all to be paid out by end of April.

He has turned this into a PIA.

this, though I'm a grudge-holding, spiteful mother****er.

also, I'm pretty sure he'd either stop using the word "release/released" in reference to the money he collected from people, spent and now is scrambling to come up with or it's brooklyn basement time with sigs wearing a fake beard.

him saying "try to get the funds released" over and over might be the small, dumb thing that causes me to lose my patience. like, you know damn well your pool managing days are over anyway, just say you used to money as an advance on your inheritance and your dickhead brother is contesting it. show me the proof (the actual will, court transcript, a general outline with a law firm's letterhead on it, whatever) and answer the phone whenever I call and I'm not happy, but I'm not worried about not getting paid.

every time he uses "release the funds" in any form, that night, leave a tire popper in his driveway. they're like a dollar each...

Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

also, what's your obsession with his brothers' criminal records?

criminals can have gambling morals the same way people who live in the same house for 10 years can defraud you out of $88k...

First obsession is your word, I was simply sharing a fact. I mentioned it in part because one of his brothers was convicted of embezzling a six figure sum, other brother convicted of simple burglary.

Since Manager was claiming brother, who was in pool, was contesting will, thought the fact they both have criminal records was relevant to story and possible next steps to consider.

I do totally agree with your second comment that people living in same house for 10 years can defraud you out of 75k.

Money does strange things to people.

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

Update 2/26/17

Pool Manager contacted my partner on Friday (after they texted him), to say he will be in touch on 2/28/17 to release one of the remaining checks we are holding. He has already release one check.

It is looking like we will get paid but will be a slow process. It's pretty frustrating, don't want to push too hard, but aggravated that he collected money and apparently used/spent and will be paying out in installments.

Question If paid in full prior to next football season should we let other pool participants know about the problems. Many already know, but there were over 500 entries and we have email distribution list from past seasons. (Manager started to BCC last season on distribution of emails).

Re: Survivor Pool Manager Won't Pay

If there is one thing I've learned from reading the LC thread in the past few days, apparently there is nothing wrong with what your pool manager is doing, and you shouldn't bring this up ever again. Especially if it'd prevent someone else from getting scammed.
