Can you just imagine this guy sitting at home hoping this all just mysteriously goes away? Exhausting every possible route to get his hands on funds to cover up WHAT HE DID?

March 24 Update

We received an additional $6,000 yesterday, so far been paid $11,500 out of $24,000.

So, still owed $12,500. Pool Manager said he'd let us know when we can expect next payment on March 28. Manager is still communicating and responding relatively quickly, within a couple of hours to our emails.

Can put my finger on it, but starting to get a hint of annoyance from Pool Manager as if we are hassling him about payment. For example, when asked when we could expect final payments, his response was along the lines of I'll let you know. Not sure what I was expecting, but something more apologetic. It's super frustrating, because he has totally brought any grief upon himself.

Good to hear you got paid a bit more. Stay on his case and hope you get the rest.

What you're doing is producing results, I wouldnt change the gameplan one bit. Keep grinding and look at each payment you get as a blessing at this point.

Just keep doing what you're doing until you've been paid or he stops paying and after that obviously inform everyone you know that plays in his pools about what happened and your suspicions that it's a ponzi etc

Great advice and I'm trying to keep that in mind. Was really counting on the payout to help fund my WSOP entries, since I suck at the pokerz! So need to use football winnings to play. I guess not getting last payments until late April or mid-May night work out time wise. I won't degen it away on other sports betting like Masters, College Basket Ball, or Turkish Soccer LOL

I agree that he seems to want to pay, but clearly the money he collected has been used for something else.

April 10 Update

So the slow paying mutha-fracker (SPMF) said next check for 6k will be paid on April 17th. I'll keep thread posted on updates, etc..

If we get paid on 4/17, then we still be owed approximately 7k. SPMF is claiming last payment will be made in May.

As mentioned previously, getting slow paid has the upside of not blowing it all before WSOP.

not to mush you here, but what is odd is (in my experience at least), most people in this situation either have all of the money and pay out immediately, or have none and you maybe get one but no more payments. this SPMF seems to actually be being it done and making good each time. Interested to see how the story concludes.

Interesting read. 100% email all former participants prior to the pool opening again this year to inform them of issues getting paid.

I'd have some more sympathy with the manager if he was transparent from the start. Something along the lines of "hey guys. i'm a degen. i gambled all the prize pool away. my father passed away. i'm expecting 100k inheritance by april. i will make good on the payouts with the inheritance money"

at least then you know he's being honest with you. still would never enter one of his pools again, but if he was at least being honest in that fashion i'd be less likely to go nuclear and report him to a variety of authorities.

UPDATE MAY 2, 2017

So, we finally got the third installment after a minor hiccup. Check for 7k cleared today and we now are waiting to hear about the last payment.

Pool Manager emailed partner stating that he is looking forward to this nightmare being over. Said last payment will be on May 16th, but we've had delays with payments 2 & 3, so we will see...

Not sure if he meant our nightmare or his or both. Either way it appears he will be making good on full payment.

Some lessons I've taken away is be respectful, avoid empty threats, stay persistent regarding communication, and choose carefully pools you'll be entering.

neeeeever make empty threats. I learned that a while ago.Told some guy to pay me or hed "regret it" lol. He was like oh yea? And didnt pay me and I didnt do anything. Wasnt good.

honestly if I were capping this I woulda made you getting shorted way earlier the odds on favorite outcome - glad you stayed patient though and are one step away from getting this behind you.

Thank you Rainmaker. I totally agree with you. Back in mid-February I would've put odds of getting paid anything at like 5 to 1 and in mid-March getting paid total amount at like 10 to 1. I'm know going to say getting whole thing by June 1st at like 2 to 1 and by June 15th at like even money..

In this case, patient, polite, and persistent has worked, but it's been a royal PITA.

As I mentioned before, the pool winnings will be a significant part of my bankroll for the WSOP and other summer events. So it's in the best interest of poker community I get paid and can donate!

Assuming you get paid in full, are you going to contact others that may have joined pools with this guy?

We've already notified our circle of friends that are part of the pool. That is about 30 people out of 400.

The pool manager used to send out an Excel Spreadsheet with each entrant's email address on it and their weekly picks. He stopped including the email addresses about 4 years ago. (We've been in this pool for 12 years!). We have the last spreadsheet from 2012 that included email contacts and at that time there were about 170 unique email addresses. (most entrants have multiple entries and the pool was smaller).

To answer your question, I have two partners in this pool and one feels we should let it go and move on to other pools. The other is more inclined to send out an email explaining why we won't be returning to the pool despite winning this past season. (The slow paying mutha fukking pool manager sent out an email after the Super Bowl with a bcc to all participants letting everyone know who "won").

I'm curious to hear what folks following this thread think would be best course of action if we are paid in full and why. Thanks.

I'd still send the email warning people what happened, just wait until you've been paid and make it clear the guy did pay you in full (assuming he does) but it took months and a bunch of hassle and thats why you're choosing not to return - at that point if people continue to participate in his pools they're doing it well aware of what may happen with regards to being slowpaid and the chance it's a ponzi scheme and the guy may be using future pool entries to pay out past winners etc.

Good to see that you've got most of whats owed to you now, best of luck with the rest of it.

UPDATE MAY 20, 2017
So, as expected the Pool Manager contacted us and said the last payment needs to be delayed two weeks and we should definitely be paid by May 30.

We remain cautiously optimistic because the manager has been responsive to emails, within an hour and more often than not within minutes.

I'll provide an update once final payment is received...but for now the waiting game continues...

That said it's clear he's running some sort of ponzi scheme and the people currently in his pools should be warned about it.

That is stupid advice.
