I have been reading about the NFL survivor pools in various forums and thought that it might be fun to do a Premier league one.

For those of you who dont know the basic rules are everyone who eneters pays a fee (more than one entry per person is allowed i believe) then before each round of games everyone picks a team which has to win in order for the participant to survive. Each team can only be picked once.

Sorry if this already exists i looked but couldnt see one. Also i know the season has started but i dont think it matters.

If anyone is interested please post here and what stake you would be up for, personaly i think $20 $50 or $100 would be good.

So you'd have to pick a few teams twice, and you'd probably have to say that ties = wins.

i hate soccer but would consider entering. i also agree that ties should = wins in this sport.

Ties = wins might make it too easy, but ties = losses would be impossible. I might be in depending on the rules we decide on. When does the season start?

Season has started but i dont see that mattering, there is still 32ish games to go. Also i think i tie should be a loss but am open to change.

As far a picking teams more than once i think it would be very unlikely that someone would get through all 20 picks without getting one wrong.

if tie = loss, then perhaps 2 or 3 strikes rather than single elimination.

ye ok, maybe you could have one life and if your team loses or draws you are down to your last life.

It would be cool if we could get this started before this weekend if you could post if your definately in and the stake. Just to try and speed things up i propose a $50 stake with a winner takes all format unless we get over 20 players in which case we'll split up the prize pool.

Even with ties being wins, it shouldn't be super-difficult since you can only pick each team once.

Maybe too late to start it this year, but I think I figured out a system that could make this work. You can use the same team up to three times, and you get three strikes.

A tie = 1 strike
An outright loss = 2 strikes

Pretty simple, and you're still forced to pick some mediocre, middle-of-the-pack teams to win at some point during the season.

I would be in for $20, but not much more. I like mulebennett's idea, although at this point in the season I'd say pick each team twice and get the strikes....

Paddy power run these with ties = loss and 700+ players get done in 12-14 weeks usually - it's much harder than you think once you've picked Chelsea.

Ties should definitely not = wins or it will take literally until the end of next season. At worst you should get one tie. I would also say pick each team once - if I was able to pick each team 3 times I'd basically never have to gamble. That's nine big three picks and plenty of chances to take spurs / city vs cellar dwellers. Even LOLerpool should win a few games this season.

Found this thread when googling "premier league survivor pool", and even though it's old as hell, and I just joined the forum to post here, I hope ya'll don't mind the necro + instant-ad 1st post....inb4 banned =D

Anyways, I've been running an EPL Survivor Pool since 2013, mostly with just friends and friends of friends, but I'm always trying to expand it and share with as many Premier League fans as possible because it's really a lot of fun. We've had between 17-23 guys per season (already 18 registered for this year) and with the rules I had set-up (ties most definitely do not equal wins, c'mon guys, lol) it usually ends by Gameweek 18 or so (last year went to GW24), and that's with 5 picks per club allowed per pool... it's not as easy as you guys think.

I run the pool off of a simple message board and google spreadsheet, update everything manually and we have a decent system of rules (especially this year with a new points change I have implemented).
