Received this email today:

Dear Client,
Since January 2007 it has been our intention to not accept wagers from the United States.

We had taken several measures to assist with this initiative in addition to diligently enforcing country of origin upon account creation. We are now investing in technology to assure that logins into our system do not occur from undesirable jurisdictions.

This email is to notify you that as of the week of 19 November, Pinnacle Sports will automatically block access to our site from all IP addresses originating from within United States.

In order to confirm your residency, the following information will be required:
. A copy of your ID (passport /driver's license)
. A copy of a utility bill with your name as proof of address

Please scan this information and forward the documents to our Compliance Department at compliance@pinnaclesports.com.

If you are unable to provide non-USA residency, please use the Cashier of your account to request a withdrawal for your balance before 19 November. Any pending plays in your account will have action. Once graded, you may return to your account to request any remaining balance. Our normal withdrawal policies will apply.

We have appreciated your business and past support of our site.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation

Kind regards,

Customer Service Department
Pinnacle Sports

I guess this helps my yet-to-be-disclosed business startup plan somewhat.

So we won't even be able to view lines from the US? That would be bad.

You guys can't just use proxies? I'm in Canada, and we spoof being in the USA all the time so we can get your netflix and streaming stuff. I suspect you can do the same and pretend to be Canadian.

And the utility bill and proof of residence? Also its a little different (nerve-wrecking) to do something like this with part of your bankroll sitting in an account knowing any day it could be snatched up if you're caught.

Proxies are not a good idea in this situation. Just like on stars.

Hey, Is pinnaclesports europe based? Iv been betting on bodog its pretty user friendly. Might change to a new sports book for better lines. Im looking at the odds for this weeks NFL games on pinnacle. ex. Denver - 4 it says 1.980. That means their paying $1.98 per dollar?

I don't follow. People with an American address haven't been allowed to bet on Pinnacle for the last 5 years. Americans could view the lines, and/or log in.

Presumably to cover them from the US Government, now they are not going to show the site at all in the US.

I had the same business idea around 08'. I think it would do much, much better in todays climate. Make friends with a executive at a central american utility company and you could make some good money.

Can't someone with a non-US IP just mirror the site or copy the API or whatever (forgive my technological ******edness) then call it pinnaclelines.com or whatever and allow americans to view the lines without being able to bet? It seems pretty farfetched to think americans won't be able to view the lines.

Can we call it steamers.com, instead?

Without actually looking at those sites I assume they already offer the service? If so, why are people concerned about not being able to check pinn lines in real time?

Forgive my newness to the SB world in general obv

you can use sportsoptions.com or donbest.com and subscribe to their line service. pinnacle is featured by both.

This sucks. Has to do with the latest scandal involving the Cantor exec I suppose.

I don't expect line services to carry odd lines such as Props/Futures/Elections/etc that I'm interested in, and you can already use SBRodds for all the lines in the major sports anyways. Will likely try a proxy for lines in the less popular markets but I'm concerned.
