No additional advantage obviously. But it is my contention that the times probably don't change THAT much from one swim to the next given just another day or two. Somebody who is 0.8 secs better than the next closest competitor isn't likely to just get THAT much slower the next time out.
That's my hunch anyway. But I have no idea and haven't looked at past qualifying times compared with medal-round times. But based on the line movement evidently the bettors agree with that idea.
