I'm not in your area but I may be joining my own league in my hometown. I'm currently trying to develop an excel file to help my Calcutta success. Do you have any such file or any interest in making one with me? ....or anyone else?

I considered starting this type of pool. I don't know the details of a tournament like this such as...
1. How many players do you need in this to be successful?
2. What do you start the min bid/bidding increments?
3. Can you do this type of thing via Skype and having remote players?
4. Do you ever put a cap on the price of a team?
5. Do you bunch the 13-16 seeds together as a group?

I highly recommend it's an additional night of fun in march.

1. Tough to answer as this depends how many teams everyone is likely to buy, to be safe id suggest you have at least 15 but a few more is ideal.
2. That depends on the league and you can start as low as 0.01 if you wanted.
3. You sure can. There are some websites you can use too.
4. No. Can't do this as that favors the top team and you'd have someone bid that cap right away leaving everyone else wanting that team to have worse expected value. The total pot will limit the max bid. For example if 15 teams sell for a total of $15, it's unlikely people will bid $100 on some 5 seed or something.
5. Our league sells all 4 13's as a group, all 4 14s as a group and all 8 15s + 16s as a group.

I hope that helps. I usually enter two of these each year so I'd chat more about it if you're interested.

Thanks a ton. I'll look into trying to run one of these this year.

Also you can encourage people to team up if they are worried about the costs. Two or three people can pool money and split all the teams they win. There's almost always a bunch of situations like this in my Calcuttas.

Do you have an excel spreadsheet or site you could recommend for setting this up? I have searched for some sites. Most seem very mediocre at best. I'd like to set this up in excel however my excel skills are mediocre as well.
