there is a flaw in what shipit is saying; Thremp pwns at using the internet. Seriously, I've put some thought in to this and wondered who uses websites, message boards, aim, irc, skype, social networks, etc to their most. It's Thremp. When the world does change, Thremp will bet the one guy that will always have cultivated some sort of relationship (don't ask me how as it clearly isn't the nice way he treats people online) with the guy that has the strategic advantage in the new environment. Counter to the impressions of most here, Thremp has always won because he has realized who is smarter than him and it what niche they are smarter. It was a Eureka realization when I realized this.

Yes, I do spend too much time thinking about different media, its role in my life, and how to optimize that role. Blame it on reading and thinking too much about Pynchon, Postman, and McLuhan.

And what happens when the person with the strategic advantage is someone he burned a bridge with? Or when he determines their knowledge is bull**** simply because it goes against the norm? Or when he goes out of his way to belittle them for ****s and giggles?

Regardless, knowing the most people to leech off does not make you an authority on anything. There is nothing wrong with using connections, but acting like your connections make you smarter than everyone else when you don't have a clue what you're talking about is a joke. Remember, the same guy who is berating noobs about their ability to problem solve is the same guy who after 3 years in sports betting can't calculate the Kelly stake on a 9 team round robin of Wong teasers himself.

The fact that he, for no particular reason is dedicating his time to trolling someone who has never wronged him and in fact made him money (and would probably have made him money in the future if he didn't burn that bridge since said person has spent the past 2 years researching/working on models that go beyond anything he could comprehend) should make you question how correct your theory is.

As an outsider, let me provide some perspective.

The SB forum is a great forum. It's very addictive, because it's full of good posters and tremendous trolling, possibly some of the greatest trolling 2+2 has ever seen. It's not a forum for those who wear diapers.

The only way to unleash myself from it's grip is self-ban, so I can get back to reading boring financial reports to find something I actually have an edge at.

I tought myself everything I know and I was offered a deal based on my skills that allowed me to make it a full time occupation without waiting around to build up the bankroll. If making a +ev decision makes me an idiot, well **** I'm an idiot. I was never given money to start a roll nor did I have good cappers to split action with. Face it, when it comes down to it you don't do anything. Making dozens of sportsbook.com and SIA accounts isn't a skill. If the sportsbetting market changes at all, and it will, you will be nothing.

I never actually did program an AMPL simulator to do those calcs. So I would still need to ask people the answer. But now that there is no where to get down on these, I just don't do anything.

I do wonder how those models are turning out. Some of mine are worthless now. Some are okay. Obviously I didn't write any of the code, nor did I do any of the actual data work. I guess they just kinda appeared out of the ether.
