Re: MMA Thread

Conor has 49 fights to watch Mayweather box, Mayweather has a couple of sparring segments of Conor. That might play a role, but then again Mayweather has 49 boxing fights, Conor has 0 xD.

Re: MMA Thread

I would have to guess Floyd is going to go into Maximum defense mode and observe for at least 2.5 rds before he even starts to throw any thing back imo.

Even neo from the matrix would be hesitant about fighting Connor.

Connor is in the absolute prime of his life, what ever happens, he cant complain about the timing of the fight for himself.

Floyd is a master of his castle and the question of how to live nicely your life outside of boxing, he knows his condition in body and mind directly = £,

I expect to see a sublime condition Floyd,, he is going to be nervous about this one because its whack,

Gym rat for life.

Re: MMA Thread

I fully expect a one sided beatdown too. Conor needs to KO him cold in the first exchange to have a real chance imo

A few guys I know are on Conor and as much as I want Conor to win I fully expect to be on Floyd at the -3xx available assuming lines similar on fight day to where it is now

I saw a Floyd wins by doctor stoppage/throwing in towel prop @ +600 on one of my books which looks tempting

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah if anything I suspect seeing the towel as well. I just don't see Conor lasting 12 rounds to be honest. Yes he looks great in camp but hitting bags is totally different and Floyd should keep a pretty high pace which I think nobody can keep unless your body is trained for for years that is. Sure Conor is conditioned but I think your body reacts differently to 3 minute rounds and if you aren't used to throwing a lot of punches then chances are your arms just won't hold up, they'll burn and I think Floyd will notice this too and he should start picking Conor off pretty easily. Conor won't have anywhere to go but take a beating.

That is if he don't KO Floyd early but that's just the Irish in me!!! Lets go Conor!

Those two bets though seem like money to me, either Conor KO's him in round 1-4 or fight does not go the distance or towel, something like that.

Easy money!

Re: MMA Thread

I can see him getting really frustrated too, I mean Floyd frustrates everyone when you can't hit him. But I'd image it will be even worse for Conor considering he can't use any other form of Martial Arts and knowing he can kill Floyd in 3 seconds anywhere else.

Re: MMA Thread

I am on Floyd at an average of 1.27.

Really think Conor has less then a 10% shot at winning this fight. Outside maybe Floyd rolling an ankle or something random like that. Its tough to see how Conor wins.

Sure he has a left hand. But Canelo hits like a truck with both hands and he barely troubled Floyd.

Re: MMA Thread

I don't know how to cap this fight, but it is obviously unreasonable for Floyd to be as cheap as he is right now. I got on him @ -400 during the weekend and that seems to have been a decent time as its been getting pricier since then.

As an aside I'm surprised at how "poor" the return here is. If I did the math right, which is a big if, a unit bet on Floyd at -400, assuming the real line should be 90/10, is only expected to return .125 units. I.e. a 12,5% ROI. *Shrugs*

Yeah, I worry that they will both be standing around waiting to counter.

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah i'm thinking i'll be on Floyd by ref/corner stoppage and probably straight up but just waiting til fight day to see what the line does

Boxing judging is even worse/more corrupt than MMA though so i'm reluctant to fire anything unusually large even though logic dictates Conor is sub 10% to win (and Floyd would be an even bigger dog in an MMA fight)

I want Conor to win though it would be nice to kill boxing for good so that an even higher percentage of young fighters choose the MMA route instead. Conor knocking Floyd out in a boxing match would basically put boxing to sleep an an inferior sport if their top guy can't even win in his chosen aspect of fighting. I really doubt it happens but i'd be okay with losing a bet if it does

lol yea we'll see how GGG v Canelo or Klitschko joshua 2 is effected if Mcgregor manages to beat a 40 year old Mayweather whos spent more time in the strip club than the gym in the last few years.

Klitschko retired.

But yeah I agree Floyd is probably underestimating Conor too much.

Re: MMA Thread

Ah fair, point being, everyone gets this is just a hype show, a good hype show in fairness, but to suggest that an upset would 'put boxing to sleep', is pretty laughable.

Re: MMA Thread

I mean obviously boxing fans would still watch what I mean is more 'new' fans would be drawn to MMA as the superior sport over boxing in the future

Also i'm pretty sure Floyd is just using the 'not taking Conor seriously' play to sell wolf tickets, I mean yes, he clearly thinks Conor doesn't have a chance but he's not jeopardizing his 50-0 and the worst fighter in the world to only have a puncher's chance against is Floyd Mayweather even a few years past his prime.

I'd love for Conor to win I just don't see it happening. If i'm wrong though i'll be happy even if I wind up losing a bet on Floyd

This is the longest gap we've had between UFC cards in forever, I guess we have Conor vs Floyd on Aug 26 but there's no UFC card between 5 Aug and 2 Sep. I guess we get a run of 4 in 4 weeks after that though followed by a stacked UFC 217 2 weeks after that so can't complain.

Pretty tempted to load up on Struve against Volkov, he's fighting in front of a home crowd and seems to have his aggression back and Volkov is helpless on the ground if it goes there (if he can't do anything against Kongo he won't be able to do anything against Struve) and Struve has a longer reach than Volkov which is something he won't be used to at all plus he's the bigger man. Struve's going to be 280 in the cage to Volkov's 250 as well and it's not useless weight in Struve's case due to his height being able to carry it on his frame without being fat.

It still comes down to mindset and whether Struve can fight intelligently and aggressively and not get caught on the chin before he can start landing I guess.

Any reason no to load up on Floyd at the current line? I'm trying to find reasons not to load up, but can't think of any other than a fix to be able to stage Floyd/Conor 2.

Dwyers recent thoughts.

Canelo Vs GGG is going to be just unreal from boxing fan perspective, unquestionable a historically good match up.

Price should improve until the sharp money comes in on fight day

I'm going to hold off until it starts steaming back basically, might get a few cents worse than I could have but who knows it might be -280 by fight day if the casual money keeps flooding in

This is just the mantra of people who don't know what the **** they are talking about.
Neither sport has corrupt judging, it is just most people have no clue how to judge a fight.
The problem with MMA judging is the rounds are too long. 5 minute rounds are just impossible to judge. With only 3 of them you get basically random outcomes.
"Corrupt" boxing judging is mostly when a fighter puts on a dirty style like Jeff Horn or Andre Ward. Combine a dirty style against Manny like Horn or Bradley and all the pactard fans cry about how corrupt everything is when it is really that they can't judge a fight to save their ****ing ass.

The ultimate example of "corrupt" judging in boxing is supposedly Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor. That is really the fans not knowing the rules because that fight absolutely should have been stopped and the ref did a great job to not let the amount of time left change his decision. It doesn't matter if there is .5 seconds left in the fight, if the guy can't continue it is a knock out. No one cares that Meldrick Taylor basically had his brain turned to mush in this fight.

Bob Arum paid the judges off to go against his global super star! Of course! All smart people are in the business of undermining themselves.

Can't wait for this weekend to be over so we can get back to reality. Basically MMA got ****ed in all this because McGregor has taken months and months off his grappling training, exactly what he could not afford to do with who is waiting for him. MMA can not afford to lose McGregor or the whole sport is practically down the drain.

Re: MMA Thread

I wonder if it will be changed to a DQ win for Cormier instead of a no-contest (like with Tibau/Trujillo).

Dana says they were looking at Jones vs. Miocic in Detroit before today's news.

Re: MMA Thread

Jones really is the biggest waste of talent. Sucks he couldn't stay off the juice. I agree that it's likely the OSP fight scared him in how badly he performed and it was probably his only clean fight

I guess we set up DC vs either Oezdemir or Gustafsson for the belt and move on and the other gets the first shot at the new champ
