OK, I'm getting ready to enter a Masters Pool where you get to select 4 golfers. The golfers are "handicapped" so your score is relative to the handicap assigned.

Example Mickelson might be -1 whereas Dustin Johnson might be -5 at the start.

With that said, who do you like as "dark horses" and why? Thanks.

By the way one of picks will be Nick Watney (80-1): One of only eight golfers to make the cut at each of the past five Masters. Not sure if he has the goods to close but at least he should be in it.

Not sure about that stat as there are plenty others who have made the cut 4 of the last 5 years and have only played in four, including two recent winners, the current US Open champ and the great pensioners' hope Miguel Jimenez and if you are only getting 80-1 on Watney (who isn't in great form), you should do a bit on line shopping

My main "dark horse" is Rickie Fowler. He made huge changes to his swing over the winter and is gradually improving and played well this week. He has played Augusta 3 times and played ok without being in the mix on the final day.

Nick watney is a good pick (available at 125/1). For me the masters is very much horses for courses

Cabrera 60/1 and Westwood 50/1 immediately spring to mind

If you are purely after longshots consider

Woodland 100/1
De laet 100/1
Chris Kirk 200/1
Boo Weekley 400/1 (out of form but big price)

I think the favourites will occupy much of the top 15 this year though

fred couples is the best value for this by miles

His window closed about 2 years ago imo and his odds were about 2x what they are for this tourney so far from best by a mile to me. He always excites for a round or 2 and then plays like a 50 year old who can't keep up when it matters

Matsuyama looks good at 100/1. Him or Victor Dubuisson to maybe be day 1 leader or something

Yep. And the above picks have promise.

Boo Weekley would be a bad price at 2000/1, the course could not set up worse for his game and personality.

The thing about August National and the Masters is that any golfer in the field could miss the cut no matter how good they are playing or how well the course sets up for them. It's just the nature of the tournament. But there are current PGA players who have zero chance of winning.

Lee westwood seems like the obvious value pick .... Look at his last 4 masters starts: T8, T3, T11, 2. He also has a 3rd place finish prior to that. Seems much better than 50/1 given his track record.

I also have a bet on Brandt Snedeker based on strong play in meaningful tournaments in 2013 including (T6 in masters, T8 players, T8 ATT). He also has a T3 previously in the masters.

Third and final bet is on Jason Day. Has a T2 and a 3 in the masters his past 3. His story is very similar to Adam Scott's; where Scott won a major after melting down at the British open; I could see Day winning the masters after a similar meltdown (especially at a course where he has some track record of success)

like the sned pick

Day is battling an injury or i would like him... also might want to check up on watney, he may be battling injury too...

a guy under the radar for next week might be bill haas... playing fairly steady, has the game to win a major just hasn;t put it together, decent record at augusta too, like never misses the cut

Matsuyama 85/1
Dubuisson 110/1
Gonzalo Fdez Castano 315/1
Sergio 24/1

Wouldn't be surprised if the tourney favs ship it though. Hopefully Adam's Champions dinner isn't a favorite and it hurts his feelings and confidence or something

Matsuyama looks good but he has been dealing with injury for awhile now. If his wrist has healed then this is a very good play but I haven't seen anything that indicates it has.

Round 1 leader- Matsuyama 45/1. Hedge prevention of him potentially falling apart on Sunday and ending up with nothing like Naj did with Rory
