Re: January-March *Angry and Bitter People* Chatter Thread

I noticed a line for the NFL 2012 season, O/U on Carolina wins was 8.5.

I mentioned it at work and a guy I know starts goin crazy about cam newton being goat and all that easily a 9+ win team next year.

I'm hardly an expert but I could easily seeing them improve to a respectable 7-8 win team next year, which would be a vast improvement over this year.

So I asked if he wanted the over, I'll take the under for a friendly wager. Fine, booked.

About an hour later he goes, "you know, I'm gonna look up that line when I get home make sure you have it right."

Lolwat. I asked him what happens if he finds a better line or the one I quoted moved. He started off on some tangent the line will most certainly not move those lines don't ever move, he just wants to make sure I had the line right.

I explained to him, no I simply bet they would have 8 wins or less, you took 9 wins or more.

He's going to check the line to make sure he got a fair bet...

Hychachacha

I can see that... from multiple angles

The claiming to be the best fans in baseball

The preaching of old school sportsmanship by a few

The arrogance of some of the fans -- winners have bandwagons

I would argue that you could put a team with the success of the Cardinals in many different cities and the resulting fanbase behavior would be, on average, worse.

It's Louisiana and Alabama

Nothing like clinging to superiority of a minor league sport to put down the North and East and those sissies in the West.

I'm usually ok with it as their passions align with mine quite a bit, but LSU and Alabama football fans are the worst.

The Zach Johnson bet last year was hilarious. I was sweating an entire book balance down to the last 9.

I think a book should have an over-under prop on how many times Musberger uses the term "honey badger." I am thinking O30 -110 is fair, maybe higher? Does Mateiu even like being called that? I do not get the impression he does.

FWIW I think Herbstreet will realize it has been way overplayed and hold back, but I can see Musberger going crazy overboard.

For those of us who have taken advantage for years of super-weak numbers on the vegas parlay cards, looks like the books have finally wised up.

I felt really sorry for Terribles when I went in there.

“I think a few groups have figured out the math and value of each half-point in regards to the set lines on the parlay card which is why we see more and more bettors coming in with stacks of cards each week,” said the anonymous director."

Re: January-March *Angry and Bitter People* Chatter Thread

Well it was good while it lasted, sometimes really good. The numbers were so bad so often that it seemed embarrassing going in there and betting. A really dumb model to begin with. Years ago Imperial Palace was burned over and again and finally gave up with the printed card and went to the board for the spreads, which I expect will happen with most of the books.

In my infancy in Vegas, I remember asking someone, "XXX sportsbook has 5x points promotion this week on parlay cards, +EV?"

"It's +EV with 0x points"
