Courtesy of the ever excellent PropPlayer, those of us who love backing drunks moving small objects around in gloomy halls now have a dedicated thread. I've added a state of the market below for those new to darts/snooker betting, hopefully if/when the landscape changes PropPlayer can continue his sterling work and edit it.
State of the betting:
Darts: Currently very liquid in play on all events, not so liquid pre live for all but the TV majors. The market often trades pre live and in play at 100% (and sometimes at 98-99%) due to darts traders
taking random positions with someone else's money to justify to their boss that they have skills slightly above a monkey chained to a desk following Betfair expertise at taking on the market.
Many UK books will allow bets up to $1000 wins on most darts for new accounts, don't expect this to last if you just smash away at their lines above Betfair/arb/beat them over decent sample. If you are in the UK you can normally get around £1k cash in shop on most darts, albeit at prices usually trading at around 110-115%. Also don't expect this to last if you consistently have an edge unless you have a very extensive selection of disguises and the ability to easily change your handwriting.
Pinny won't ban you and has started offering darts and snooker, sadly at limits so low that you are currently better off spending the time it would take to login begging for change on the streets instead.
All serious volumes for darts currently go through Betfair, and to a lesser extent Betdaq. Most in play darts and just before the off will see $10,000+ in the order book in various directions. If you can beat these lines, the commission and the premium charge, you've just wasted a few minutes of your life reading the above as you will know it all already.
Snooker: Virtually identical to the above in terms of the main UK bookmakers and Betfair – albeit with slightly lower limits/liquidity generally. Some reasonable volumes of snooker money appear to be going through Asian books due to the games exploding popularity in the Far East. This has - yet - to translate into higher limits for western customers at the Asian books who won't limit you, but the future of snooker betting arguably looks a little rosier than darts due to this.
Here's
Ronnie O'Sullivan hitting the world's fastest 147 and
Phil Taylor hitting two nine darts legs to show you how easy these games are.
