I think you are right, a lot of sports bettors are starting to look at horses. It's a shame the Keeneland has cancelled their entire spring meet but those horses have to race somewhere, right?
You can make money with horse racing but it certainly isn't easy. If you are a degen with no bankroll mgmt skills... you will lose cash.
My love for poker has faded over the years but I still keep up with the game from a distance. Horse racing is more laid back and it's grown on me over the years.
If I were to give a NEW horse player advice on how to get started:
> Ignore everyone else and do your own research
> Stay away from the early (undercard) races --- Makes notes on how the track is playing -- For example, is the inside rail fast/slow.
> Watch the replays, the past performances are often riddled with errors
> Youtube's HorsePlayerNow Night School series is a very good starting point for beginners. The videos are old but they hit all of the fundamentals.
> Computer Robotic Wagering makes up 20% of the handle --- so watching the film is where you get your edge. This doesn't mean that the bots are unbeatable... bots simply use angles derived from past performances. You get your edge by watching the videos and picking up on things the bots do not.
> Start with Win/Place bets --- Stay away from exotics and horizontals until you get a grip.
Plenty of reading material is available on handicapping horses but many profitable players should simply focus on beating the takeout. This means that you should look for bonuses and rebates...
If you are new player, tons of sites are giving nice first deposit sign up bonuses but read the fine print. Many won't let you cash in on $2.20 show payouts.
With that said, I am about to watch some film. Wish me luck.
