It's a jackpot pool, which means you need to have the only winning ticket. Looks like this pool is getting $30-60k per day, so maybe there's potential for single jackpot tickets but I don't know how you'd go about finding the best combos... probably taking the longest shots and stacking them on top your ticket. Your odds of winning will be a bajillion-to-one and even if you won, if someone shares your ticket you go on life tilt.
My thoughts are just wait til last racing day and see if the carryover is still around on "must-pay" day. Otherwise these jackpot pools are glorified lottery systems that remove most handicapping skill and maximize takeout for tracks.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
A Poem by Charles Bukowski. I think it's beautiful.
^^^ XVII ^^^
I lost a dollar at the track today and I know that's
stupid: it's better to win a hundred or lose a hundred--
there is at least the jostle of emotions
but I was 29 bucks ahead going into the last race so I
laid 30 win on this 8-to-one shot going into the last, he
came in second, it was bad luck
that's all. so
I lost a dollar.
but sometimes we've got to settle for not very much;
we need our rest; great tragedy or great victory will
arrive soon enough.
so I sit here tonight sipping on my wine and listening to
a Vaughan Williams symphony on the radio
and you too are probably waiting for better or worse.
waiting is the greater portion of being around.
I waited on that 8-to-one shot in the last race and
he came on in the stretch rapidly closing the space
between himself and the horse nearing the wire, he came
with a beautiful rush, pounding and driving, to fall a
head short.
such is the life of a gambler: to go away then and wait
to return.
not all of us are gamblers; those who aren't don't
matter.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
haha, thats good HC. i like that.
i think we lost most of the posters during the shutdown. that sucks. :-(
early, i'm looking at Dullahan in the Belmont. I thought he closed nicely in the Derby and if the race was 70 yards more he would have won. he had the most left in the tank, thats for sure. the mile and a half should help him. only thing i'm uncertain of is who will be setting the pace and what kind of pace. but i like the distance and with skipping the preakness, he has fresh legs.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
Does anyone else play the place pk all at GG or Hollywood? I usually do a quick pass through the form and make a few picks. I did hit 9/9 at GG on 2 tickets for $1274.20 on May 20. It seems like an easy bet, but there have been days with no perfect tickets.

I'm still not sure about the Belmont but Paynter will probably be close to the lead if not setting the pace. As for my longshot, maybe Street Life, I will be using him in the exotics but that is about it right now. Still not sure what horses I like.

Please define easy.
As for the Belmont, is anyone else going? I'll be there Friday and Saturday, should be an awesome time. I have not decided how I'll play the race, but will have my obligatory $2 win bet on IHA for posterity obv should he win.
I'm pumped, never been to Belmont, so if anyone has any local tips or anything like best place to park, good food to make sure to eat etc, I'd appreciate it.

So many small fields there, but I'll play em. I will play small Pick 6 carryovers at Golden Gate somewhat often, as there is not a lot of money chasing them.

I will be at Belmont as well, I am heading to NY today. I have only been twice before both non-triple crown years, so I have not seen the crowd that they will have this weekend. I have never driven in, I have always taken the LIRR from Penn Station, it was very easy and quick.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
Been to several Belmont's with Triple Crown hope, not going this year.
Expect huge crowd, the weather looks to be perfect, and its a great place to enjoy the races. Parking will be difficult, always best to arrive early to find a decent spot, when I have attended I would arrive at the track by 7:30am to secure a parking spot and get the day started.
Was at Preakness, and I really want to see this IHA ship the Trip Crown

Thanks for that - we are taking the train into Belmont on Friday as well. We had planned on driving on Saturday though, because we will be leaving NY immediately following the races. Might change our mind about driving over there though.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
Anyone here use HTR software or HSH software? I've been using HTR for several years but I just saw that Dave has released a new version of HSH and I was thinking of moving over. Any thoughts?

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD
**DISCLAIMER**
I know less than zero about horse racing (or betting on horse racing) but for pure entertainment purposes only I am planning on betting a few dollars on Saturday on the Belmont (LDO).
What is the general consensus on just putting $xx to win on the bottom 6 or 7 longs and then boxing the two favorites for the exacta? Is this totally dumb even in the 'I don't care' realm or am I doing what tons of other Triple Crown only bettors do on this day?
