Me too along with the PK4 on a cheap ticket. Was not trusting a horse who did what it did last out and will never trust that horse. Did well with Irish Jasper and Force The Pass though. Coach Inge ran its heart out but came up an 1/8th mile too much for him, plus the front end chase did not help him any.

Nice BBB

Irish Jasper was about all I hit today. 3/4 on the late pick 4 and never smelled the pick 6.

When there are two or three races where I end up screaming, "Come on! Anyone but that horse!!!" I feel like it sums up my day.

Hung to the quarter in 26 flat today and still won in 148.2 easily beating the one horse that ever beat him when he was driven terribly. The world's best older horses were three fifths of a second slower in the race that followed. Only Somebeachsomewhere could possibly have been better.

Great horses are often remembered for their losses. Somebeachsomewhere will always be remembered for one of his best races ever, the only one he lost, which was the Meadowlands Pace. Niatross was remembered for jumping the rail at Saratoga Harness. That is one of the races people think of.

Not sure Wiggle will be remembered for the recent loss, but I agree he could end up being one of the best ever. There is a specialness about him, for sure. If he goes a few big miles other than front-end domination, then his stock will go up. He is not necessarily a speed horse, just tons the best all the time, so Montrell sends him to the front like he should.

Had DD as well for public handicapper and finally got that record back in the black. Was a good weekend of racing all around.

Can everyone still feel the boom and crush from the sport having a TC winner again

Honcho, it helped a lot I think. There was other good news that came out of that race besides just binking the triple crown. We are one of the few sports at the moment without any real scandals to digress about. So it's not so bad that things are just cool in horse racing. Things are way better, AP will race again, and the interest will brew some more.

3b, I took your reply to me about the Breeders Cup at Keeneland to heart, and appreciate your convictions that it's a good decision to have it there. I'm sure the media and the association can pull off a triumph and showcase it beautifully. The track benefits from some improvements, so yeah, let's go for it.

Wise Dan could come wheeling around the turn at Keeneland too.

To each their own Grenzen, but to say scandal free just is not accurate. This year alone we have 2 different jockeys with buzzers, trainers like Vasquez with bans etc. Not sure what your idea of a real scandal is,and i am not saying those are it but def not blemish free. Point i was making is i do not feel it and the people i am in contact with in the sport as well it was great for the sport for them 5 weeks and that Belmont Day,after i and people i know do not see a rush to sign up with ADW's and such. It was being pitched as the Moneymaker event in horse racing and it felt damn good for a day but def was not a business changer.

My best friends are so fed up with horse racing. I get serious vitriolic emails when I even try and discuss handicapping, or a meet, or a race.

I didn't mean to infer we were scandal free.

I know we are never ever going back to the way it was.

Well you and your opinions are welcome in the HRT grenzen. None is ever going to agree always and certain in horse racing i read somewhere the odds even on the tote are based on different opinions but as long as we all do not take opinions personal or get personal which is good about the HRT we can share some solid info coast to coast.

I see you are just defending a sport you like very much if not more because you also said next that you get emails from fellow cappers who are just fed up with the sport even with the TC rush. Many things i know i would change and have a ton of ideas but i am a nobody with no influence soooo Have a hard enough time keeping my snakes & sparklers stand going right now after the 4th. Waiting on turf and surf and new dirt.

Recommend any books on handicapping or the sport as a whole? I've read most of beyers stuff. I'm a slight loser over the last couple of years and want to try to get to at least breakeven over the next year. It's more of an intellectual pursuit than about making money to me

What tracks do you focus on?

Mainly the big ones. Churchill, Belmont, etc. Gulfstream and the Florida tracks in the winter.

My local track is emerald downs, normally get down there a few times a month

How do you usually wager? Win bets, Exacta's, pick 4's, pick 5's, pick 6's?

The Jim Dandy and Travers will determine if he is even going to run in the Breeders Cup. The horse hasn't won a race all year and hasn't faced a tough field yet.

horse racing does very well on the big days but how do you convert the people that come to those to everyday fans, especially ones that bet?

does your average person even know you can legally wager online? i dont think ive ever seen anything related to this outside of things you'd only be looking at if you were already into horse racing. has anyone seen TS or xpressbet ads in local card rooms or sports mags or gambling pubs or poker mags?

to me horse racing for a number reasons will always be a niche sport. but you can get gamblers - new ones and bring old ones back, if takeout was better. track brass that have such poor understanding of this tells you all you need to know. also most dont care. so many places rely on slot money and pretty much say f it.

long story short - i went to SA about 2 months ago. not the nicest day weather wise, but not awful. friday afternoon racing. 1st race there was probably 40 or 50 people outside watching the race with another 50-100 inside playing simulcast. more people trickled in throughout the day - mostly degens punting their paycheck and frat guys getting drizzed. anyways point being that actually being there was kind of depressing. fun watching the races and going out to the paddock to watch the horses up close, but not a place i want to go frequently.

the sport needs to focus on getting people to the track with promos that draw them in. but at the same time focus on improving conditions for gamblers (most of whom are NOT at the track). but i have little confidence due to incompetent tracks management and no central authority.

Production value. Any time NBCSports broadcasts a card it adds to the aura of racing. Watch it on TVG and it looks like a run down track.

Win/place, DD, and the occasional pick 5/pick 6 on large carryover days.
