Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Emerald Downs has released the STAKE SCHEDULE for the upcoming meet. Looks to be the same as last year.

One slight change that doesn't bode well for Heart, is that they moved the State restricted Stakes day up to the 9th, last year it was on the 18th.

How is this bad? If it was a week later in the season as it has traditionally been, it forces trainers to decide whether they want to race or just work the horse upto the BC Premier (CAN G3) thats on October 8th at Hastings in Vancouver. This could have possibly deluted the field by a horse or two, and given Heart a better shot Oh well!!!

Noosa Beach was back at the track on wednesday, and I suspect they will follow a similar game plan to last year.

Last year Noosa Beach won the George Royal opening weekend at Hastings 4/22 (will be 4/15 this year) and than ran in the first stakes race of the Emerald Downs season the Governor's Handicap 5/22 (5/20 this year).

He's All Heart has failed miserably in two career starts in the Governor's, finishing 8th in 2010 and 10th in 2011. Maybe its a skipper this year.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Its been a while since i posted up in here. Last year was a losing year... oh well, it happens.. I started a new job so ive been busy with that, but the 3 year old races get my blood flowing.. Well, im taking a shot in the GII Arcadia later today. Theres 2 really nice horses in there, Mr Commons, who crushed on opening day in the Beaufort he did the same in the Ocean Side las summer at delmar. Hes a real nice 1, perhaps the best turf miler in US.. the other nice horse in this race is Pathfork, this guy has won 3 of his 4 lifetime races, in his only loss he was beaten by Frankel, so u cant fault him for that.. The negative to pathfork is hes making his first start in North America, he may need a race or 2, his trainer John Sadler is on record saying hed like to stretch him out to further distances, so id like to think this is a prep for sumthin down the road, but u still have to respect him greatly imo. However I land on the #6 Willyconker in here.. Ive been watching this horse for a while and he gets the acid test today!! Dougy claimed this horse earlier las year and has moved him up the ladder with patience and precision. Im not a real big doug oneil fan, but 1 thing about him, hes excellent at running a horse up the ranks and im pretty sure thats his niche. Morning line is 8/1. Mr C and PF are gonna take loads of money, so its very well possible we could see a nice overlay in here. It race 3 at santa anita. Il b betting the following. Good luck folks and its good to b back.

Santa Anita race 3 saturday. Trying to get 3/1 on my money if he hits the board

$60 win #6

$40 Exacta 8 with 6

$25 Exacta 2 with 6

$6 Exacta 1,3,4 with 6

$3 Exacta 5,7 with 6

$12 Tri 8 with 2 with 6

$8 Tri 2 with 8 with 6

$6 Tri 8 with 1,3,4,5,7 with 6

$3 Tri 2 with 1,3,4,5,7 with 6

$2 Tri 1,3,4 with 2,8 with 6

$1 Tri 1,3,4 with 1,3,4,5,7 with 6

Total $241

Thought for a moment i was gonna b put on the inquiry for the win. I misplayed this. In hindsight i should have bet him to win & played the 8-6 ex hard. It ran 8-6 & the exacta was putrid. I had to pay them to cash it. $5.40 for the $1.

Big Carryover at SA.

"I'm going to go for it honey" - Clark Griswold.

Waiting on scratches, but it seems "getable" to me.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

The second annual Pegasus Horse Sale for two year olds in training is tomorrow. Last year I was able to attend hte preview day but not the sale, this year I attended the preview day (today) and will be at the sale tomorrow.

Last year 17 of hte 22 horses sold (2 outs 3 RNA's) for a total of 633k (37,235 avg) Of those 17 horses 12 made starts.

48starts
6wins
9places
13shows

with 1 stakes win to boot and a total earning of $177,350.

This year there are 30 horses catalogued (4 outs). Two things I noticed this year: First THE weather was far more cooperative! and THERE were a lot more BUYERS checking out the horse, The big local hitters were here and there were also some trainers up from Socal and GG, such as Kathy Walsh.

Pegasus is a rehabilitation/training center owned by Mark Dedomenico, who founded Pro Sports Club, He spent a healthy chunk of money (I believe about 25 million) setting up this operation and building world class facilities right in beautiful Redmond WA (I'm biased! my home city). The facility includes all the modern ammenties, and a 5/8th POLYTRACK training track complete with starter gate (in fact its part of the old gate from Longacres in Renton).

Today all the HIPS (excluding the outs, and 21) galloped around the track twice, powering through the stretch.

Best looking horse: In my opinion I thought HIP 6 looked the best, and looks great on paper and on NICKS. It was the only horse that I noted down as GREAT during the gallop.

One horse that I think is interesting from a local perspective is HIP 28 by Southern Africa a January gelding he has a big frame to him, that he looked like he could grow into. A lot of these horses will race down in California or Kentucky which was hte fcase with most of the horses sold last year. This horse passed through the WTBOA sale for 6k first time, and due to his young unknown sire and questionable breeding could be RELATIVELY cheap at this particular sale.

That said I think he has ample opportunity to make a return this year.

-January foal
- Northwest Race Series (fully Nominated, so he could get a crack at some early 25k restricted stakes)
- Washington Bred (So he is elligible for the Washington Cup (35k race for 2 yr olds to end the year)
The Washington Cup race is usually light on talent as the big 2 year old race to end the meet is two weeks later
- WTBOA Sales incentive program, gets a bonus for breaking his maiden in a MSW at EMD, and is also eligible for a 20k ALLOWANCE later in the meet
- THIS year Pegasus is offering a 20k bonus to the first horse out of the sale to win an unrestricted stakes race at a value of 20k or more.

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Sale went well, I posted a recap here

Mario Gutierrez was up from Santa Anita on both days, checking things out, and maintaining good ties with Troy Taylor (trainer) and Glen Todd (owner) who he rides first call for up at Hastings, and also rides most of mounts they ship south to Santa Anita.

Kathy Walsh purchased a couple horses from the sale. Her father was a longtime top trainer at Longacres. Quite a few decent trainers over the years have migrated out of Washington to chase larger purses down in Cali.

Hollendorfer purchased the sale topper for 125k.

This sale really built upon last years, Dedomenico really operates a class organization. Can't wait to come back again

Re: HORSE RACING THREAD

Black Caviar again this Saturday stepping up to the 1400m distance for the first time.

She's in quality company. Southern Speed bolted in to win last start first up and won the Caulfield Cup last year during the Melbourne Carnival - as good as form gets nearly. This is not a walkover by any means but her odds may seem so (1/25).
